These 3 reviews on Amazon concerned me, as they are from September & October of this year:
 Dangerous item, 3 Oct 2011

Alfredet "Alfredet" (Birmingham UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tefal ActiFry FZ700015 Low Fat Electric Fryer, 1 kg Capacity, White (Kitchen & Home)
I am on my third actifry and this last one after only 14 months has just blown up. red hot glowing element and horrible smell. It is a fantastic item when working, but does not last after the guarantee period. STRANGE THAT DON'T YOU THINK. Tefal do not want to know about it's inherent problems so DO NOT BUY ANOTHER ONE WHEN YOUR FIRST ONE BREAKS. This is what keeps them in business and stops them recifying the problems. ie: the paddle breaks, the lid closure breaks, the rear hinge breaks .........
I would rather go without chips etc than keep giving this rip off company more money. It's about time they sat up and took notice of their failings and the risk that they are putting people at, Risk of fire.

The only reason I won't buy an Actifry is because in between the really good reviews, the bad ones are mostly about safety issues (the others are about it breaking). I refuse to shell out nearly £100 when there is no evidence that Tefal have got their act together!Money, money, money, must be funny, in the rich man's World!0

Nearly £100 to cook some chips ? Why are these appliances such ridiculous prices ? I use Frylight, salt and pepper and roast in the oven, just like SW chips. We only eat chips maybe once every 2 weeks anyway, i couldn't justify the cost.0

I had a friend who also bought one of these and it started belching out black smoke one night! It's enough to put me off. Please remember to thank fellow MSE'rs :beer:0

I had my 1st that lasted 3 years. During that time I replaced the lid, as the catch broke costing £40. I used it at least 3 times per week, and it finally blew up with blue flames coming out of the motor. There was no panic, and I just turned it off at the wall. I stripped that one for parts, and purchased my 2nd (Black) one, which has been going for a year with no problems. If you are going to get one, do not leave it unattended. I think it is a great buy, as I hate kitchen smells, and like the fact that parts are dishwasher safe.0

When my last one blew up, I sold the lid, paddle and pan on ebay and got £56!
Went towards the next one a black one this time.
Couldn't live without mine even if they do go after a year or so, well worth it.
I think people that are saying £100 for chips is expensive, should give them a try and they'll know what we are talking about.
Don't go by the taste at the shows though, I tasted at Ideal home last year and they were soggy, demonstrators didn't know how to cook with it.

Much as I would love one of these, I'm too worried about the risks involved and a lot of people I speak to have the same concerns.
Because the dodgy ones were all RECALLED from retailers, the only ones out there are the v2 models and the whole problem was cleared up nearly 2 years ago.
For example if Ford put out a car with dodgy brakes, recalled and fixed them would you then claim all Fords have dodgy brakes 2 years on (notice how I didn't use Toyota as an example :rotfl:)0

So how do you explain the more recent reviews, just a few months old, from Amazon that I posted here, that say theirs blew up/caught fire etc? (I'm sure they didn't actually 'blow up' but if something even has the potential of maybe catching fire, then why buy it?)
Added to this that some people are saying bits have melted off or fallen off, particularly the paddle, or only lasted a year. That's disgusting for a product that costs nearly £100!Money, money, money, must be funny, in the rich man's World!0

Dont forget people can review a product at any time, even if they bought it 2 years ago, or if they didnt buy it from Amazon at all, but 2nd hand from a car boot...
Yes appliances fail, but I dont think this product is any worse than a deepfat fryer
Thats said, it is your choice and if you dont want one, dont buy one ... 0 0
