Since when has it been limited? I have never seen anyone go to an 'all you can eat' buffet and then been told they have to stop.
Noone has ever taken it as literal. It's just common sense that people don't take the !!!!. Obviously if you spent the entire evening there eating non stop they would pull you up on it. 'All you can eat' is simply a phrase not a literal statement.0
