Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tue 23 Jan. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.[/
Hi everyone! :j
I thought I'd start the thread today because I won't be able to log in until late tomorrow afternoon, and just want to say
Happy Birthday AussieLass! :j :bdaycake: :j
Well, been busy the past few days, as I managed to get quite a bit of work to replace the jury service that never materialised  Busy also in the next few days, so I won't have to use up my tax rebate for day to day expenses. I shall put it in my savings and if I need the money it's there.
Meanwhile have found a large box full of soap at the back of the bathroom cupboard. 78 soap bars!

These hark from the days, years ago, when I was collecting it - don't ask me why, cos I dunno myself
. So now most of it has lost its scent, but tonight I found a good use for it. I had to wash some delicates, so I took the cheese grater and using the finer holes (or whatever they're called) I grated some soap in hot water and soaked the garments in it, left it a while then washed properly, and rinsed with a bit of soda crystal to soften the water. Came out beautifully! I guess I have enough soap to last me for years.
I hope the day is happy, peaceful and prosperous for all of you!

Hi Quasar and everyone to follow,
I was just on my way to bed when I saw your post and couldn't resist popping on to wish Aussie a very Happy Birthday!:bdaycake:
Yesterday was an odd day……
DD is doing her AS levels and this week is work experience week…..she's doing hers in the primary school she went to and where our youngest still goes. It was strange to wave her off to her first full day at 'work'. She loved it and even got to mark her brother's homework, but she was pale, tired and very very grumpy in the evening.
We had a parent/teacher's interview at DS1's school. It went well, until we met him afterwards…… apparently he forgot to switch his mobile off when he got into school, someone phoned him while he was in class and the phone has been confiscated. School policy is that he will automatically get Saturday detention (meaning he'll miss his rugby match) and that his phone will not be returned until a parent comes in to collect it from the Dean. DS2 is not a happy bunny. Neither am I as it looks like I will have to travel 18 miles into the City to retrieve the phone and apologise to the Dean.
The only good thing to happen here was that DS2's wobbly tooth finally fell out……..he's delighted that the tooth fairy will be coming at last and he's been making the rest of us smile with his lisp.
Sorry for going on…..
I haven't had much chance to read the threads over the last week as I've had mega problems with my internet connection…..but I have managed to pick up a few things.
Ageandjo, I hope you managed to get through the last few days ok.
Smokeybabe, Hugs for you. Yesterday sounds like it was a dreadful day for both you and DH. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Shez, your post struck a chord with me. <Hugs>
Jackie O, I’m glad to hear Tilly Grace is getting stronger.
Rchddap, I hope Lilly got on ok with her hearing test.
To anyone who's had a birthday, belated birthday wishes.
To the new posters on this thread, welcome!
Have a good Tuesday.

Hi Quasar, Hi everybody
Quasar...How much soap...OMG!!!
Happy Birthday to AussieLass - hope you can get out from under your packing boxes and celebrate.
I'm feeling heaps better now...but still not 100%. My GP has diagnosed a chest infection and has recommended a week off work, so that's what's going to happen. My breathing still sounds like I chainsaw though.
As for old style...I'm forcibly having to eat what I've got in the cupboards, so that's good. Over the past four days or so I have really lost my appetite - v.unusual for me. Unfortunately on Thursday evening I removed some mince from the freezer intending to cook it on Friday - of course it never happened, and so it's going to have to hit the bin...I hate wasting food, but c'est la vie.
Hope everyone is OK.

Hi SnowyOwl. Hey Pink_Winged, sound like it's all go at your home! Oh I know it must be a pain to go all the way to the school, but I think DS will have learnt a valuable lesson there
Oh I have been off the OS board for a few days, and haven't noticed any of the above with regard to our OS friends - I hope all is ok for each of them.
Off to bed now OMG look at the time!Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

:hello: Goooooood Morning fellow OldStyler’s
Just enjoying a refreshing hot water with lemon, ooh lovely
Had a lovely day yesterday, picked up a copy of “Grow Your Own” magazine and it came with a wall chart showing what to plant, and when, throughout the year, just the sort of quick reference visual aid I needAlso, (yes, I’ve been splurging on magazines, my weakness
)
Also saw “The Wild Food Year” in WH Smiths, RRP £9.99 but they are selling it half price:j :j Well, I would have been a fool not to make the ‘investment’
My dehydrator arrived, but will have to be returned, the thermostat knob is upside down  A girl can’t be expected to work with an upside down knob! So, on my To Do’s for the day is to contact the company and have a word :shhh:
Quasar, 78 bars of soap … … you could make your own HM Laundry Powderor, if you prefer a more snotty solution, you could make Laundry Gloop (don’t like the Gloop myself, but I know of others who swear by it
)
Aussielass, many happy returns of the day.
Snowy - yuk, chest infections can be so debilitating!! Hope you recover soon!
Got all the beds to change today, so I think I’m going to turn the mattresses and give them a good hoover whilst I’m at it. Think it’s probably time I cleaned the filter in the hoover as well, so I’ll do that when I’ve finished. That’ll keep me focused while I wait for a phone call – D12yo was punched in the face yesterday by one of the girls in his year and I’m waiting to hear what the school are going to do about it. She’s been taunting him for some time but he’s not said anything, but he couldn’t really hide his eye! Besides, she chose to just walk up to him from nowhere to do it, and in front of several of his friends, not to mention his younger brother, so it wasn’t something he could pretend hadn’t happened. Nor can she pretend it was a spontaneous thing either. Oh well, the school is usually pretty good on other things, so I’m sure they’ll do the right thing in this instance (although I’m not too sure what the ‘right’ thing is to be honest – on the one hand her behaviour is unacceptable, but on the other hand … well, no one *really* knows what goes on in other people’s lives do we; maybe she’s having troubles of her own and that is how it’s manifesting itself).
Need to pop out and do the chicken and the quails shortly, but I’ll wait until it’s a bit lighter first.
((hugs)) to those who need them, sounds like a few of you do!!!
Take care everyone.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hi. I missed yesterday, I got way laid on to other things.
Cold and frosty today, what a change from rain.
I said I would decorate my daughters' bedroom, but as she has not bothered to pack up her stuff, I can't really. So that is in limbo at the moment.
I may get the prep work done and when she see;s filler everywhere, she might pack stuff up so that I can paint over it.....
Apart from that, I am not sure what I will do. Try not to spend money would be helpfull.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning all
Another early morning for me – currently trying to wake with a very strong black coffee.
Kyle, It’s absolutely freezing here too so I’m bundled up with so many layers of clothes that I look at least two sizes bigger and I may have to nudge the thermostat up a degree
Queenie, hope you’re son’s ok – schools are really good about bullying these days so the matter should be resolved quickly. With regard to the bully having underlying problems, I was on a conflict resolution course recently. The trainer was saying that we should no longer think of the bully as a victim with low self esteem who needs support and help. The current theory in our district is they have a very high self esteem which is reinforced by their power over their victims and we should ‘stamp it out’ immediately! This was also backed up by the great Penny Tassoni when I went on one of her child development seminars recently!
My soup yesterday was great so I’m going to try and make a leek and potato one today as I got three packs of leeks reduced to 10p each in Waitrose yesterday. I’m sure there are a couple of potatoes lurking somewhere in the kitchen, otherwise it may be a leek and leek soup.
Oh and last night I shined my sink! Have to admit it was good coming down to a more organised kitchen this morning - I also did a bit of decluttering last night so I could almost feel the positive chi meandering around the kitchen!! I think I'm going to do the same again tonight, goodness at this rate I’ll be joining the flylady challenge!
Have the best day ever! It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.0 -
Morning folks
Happy Birthday Aussie Lass
Another frosty morning here. Yesterday it was so heavy I couldn't get the car doors open. It was like the car was covered in a sheet of ice. The cold weather is not helping my ear infection.
Not long out the shower then need to get ready for work.
Last night I didn't get home until 7 due to heavy traffic (i finish at 5:30) and as I had been off for a week was exhausted so hopefully tonight I will be a wee bit earlier and manage a quick hoover and tidy up.
Well time to go.
Bye for now0 -
Miss Behaving - ok, I had to google Penny Tassomi
- thank you for your response
Well done on shining your sink (you'll soon be doing the 27 Fling Boogie) and especially on your HM Soup! :T On the subject of leeks, as you have a glut, you could make a leek gratin too - basically, sweat the leaks in butter, make a white sauce, add to the leeks, put in a shallow oven proof dish and top with breadcrumbs and a bit of grated cheese (sprinkle on some paprika if you like a bit of bite to your flavour)
