I've been there and got the t-shirt, it wasn't pretty. I really wouldn't move in together if you are hoping to start dating. I ended up with a lot of heartache and lost lots of money having to find somewhere else to live as I couldn't cope with it all.
You could always just find a room for rent for now, and see how it goes with your friend... if you decide it's not to be a dating thing then you could maybe still move in (provided you both feel the same way!).
