you can make breadcrumbs by putting torn up bread inside a poly bag and then rubbing it from the outside - it's easier than grating if you have to make the crumbs from fresh bread too
What a great/grate tip!!! :T~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you have a food processor, whizz up your bread with some cheese and freeze in portions to top lasagne, cauliflower cheese etc.0

Home made stuffing is delicious with roast chicken or pork. Just put stale bread pieces, onion, some fresh or dried herbs plus salt & pepper and a sprig or two of fresh parsley in a mixer for a few moments (be careful not to overmix bread otherwise it spoils texture - keep to largish crumbs) and either stuff your joint with mixture or butter an ovenproof dish and cook seperately until golden brown. Stuffing is richer if you add butter but I'm always watching calories.0

My Mum gave me this recipe tonight to use up old bread, so I thought I'd share it with you!
Queen Of Puddings
For the base:
1oz granulated sugar
2oz breadcrumbs
1/2 oz margarine
1 egg yolk
1/2 pint milk
Rind of orange, lemon or vanilla essence
1 tablespoon jam
For the topping:
1 oz caster sugar
1 egg white
Method:
1. Heat the milk and margarine together until marg is melted
2. Pour over bread crumbs
3. Add granulated sugar, flavouring and beaten egg yolk. Mix well
4. Pour into a well greased pie dish and bake in a moderate oven (160c, 325f, gas 3) for 20 minutes until set
5. Remove from oven and spread top with jam
6. Make meringue topping by beating egg white and sugar until stiff
7. Spread meringue on top of base
8. Bake in a cool oven ( 140c, 275f, gas1 ) until meringue is set, approx 10 - 15 minutes.
9. Eat and enjoy!0 -

I'm not being flippant, but you could feed the birds. I turn my stale bread into breadcrumbs (by hand or in the food processor) and mix with bird seed and put on the bird table and some on the lawn. You could mix with seeds/currants and left over fat to make fat cakes for them especially in the winter. I've got loads of birds in my garden now I feed them.0

I do this too, or we take small people to feed the ducks:D0 -
My mum used to make bread pudding, which IIRC involves soaking the stale bread in milk (and possibly water), squishing it up, adding raisins and nutmeg, putting in a baking tray and baking in the oven. Then you cut it into squares. It's nice with a cup of tea.
I'll try to get the actual recipe from my mum. I'm convinced that my half-remembered version wouldn't work without sugar. There might be egg in it too.Operation Get in Shape

I only do this in the winter months as it's not good for the birds to be dependant on us all year round.0 -
Yes I agree - definately no peanuts as the bluetits feed them whole to their young and the poor little things choke and die.0
