Not posted since I asked to rejoin GC - but have to hang my head in shame and admit defeat this month! :( Not saying how much over, but it's substantial, so my November challenge is dead! Will start again for December, and post more often to keep on track - see you on the other side. :D

    A xo

  • Russetred well done from me too - I remember years ago something similar happened to us but it was a Pheasant. We stopped & picked it up (not a mark on it) but neither me or my ex could bring ourselves to "do anything" to the poor thing......

Popped to Mr A - £18 spent (have given up on Nov totals but still trying to keep things within control).

Mainly on milk as usual (£8) which is a big chunk of my weekly spend:(. The rest was a few bits for lunches next week and I did get some whoopsied fruit & veg (which I thought odd for a Sat lunchtime - don't usually go to the sm at that time so not sure if it's a reg thing?). Got nectarines & plums which I can't usually afford (& refuse to pay big prices for) and an enormous tub of mushrooms for 50p which have been chopped & frozen (1st time I've tried this!).

Can I just ask, would you freeze the venison straight away or would you need to hang it first? I admire you being able to do it. I do not eat meat but think its great that it wont go to waste.

i'm not sure if it's road kill tbh as assuming they didn't bring the whole deer home, but usually you hang them (you don't have to but it helps) they have old shop cocacola fridges that they hand them in there garage, they put paper on the windows so as not to upset anyone visiting, i wanna point out that my hubbys grandad and dad were pig farmers and they have always shot as a family so are hardened to this type on thing, my opinion is if it comes to me like it does in a supermarket/butcher i'll cook it, my hubby once handed my a warm phesant, i freaked and threw it at him (it was deskined) he had a great laugh at me saying it had been running round a field less than half an hr before (your suppose to hang them aswell but again you don't have to just improves favor)

  • The flu jab these days is an inactivated form, so shouldn't be giving you many more symptoms than a sore arm and a bit of a temperature (but that is supposed to show that your immune system is working). It doesn't cover all forms of flu though, just what is predicted to be the worst versions this year. The virus mutates from year to year which is why we need to go each year.

Apologies for the lecture but a. I'm immunosuppressed myself due to medication, and b. a medical student who has just sat through the microbiology lectures on it! It really can save lives though, so I'd just be concerned if anyone who really needed the protection was put off by this forum. :o Sorry...

  • Not really GC but defo MSE - I bought a beautiful Next leather large sofa on ebay last week for £80!!! It is nearly new and still in the catalogue for almost £1000 - that is my bargain of the year! The woman was moving house and obviously had loads of money and just wanted rid of the sofa!! Can't believe my luck as my old one was in a right state.

oh well done you. I had similar situation last month. DD1 had sleepover planned for Birthday but kids were too big for Ready Beds. Went on eBay & got £500 John Lewis sofa bed for £50! Owners had bought it for new house, moved & then realised it didn't fit up the stairs! So it was brand new & a great Birthday present for DD1!

Finished November on Thursday & started December on Friday. Will declare & set new budget tomorrow! Xx

    Mousse £0.26
    Yoghurt £0.44

Not exactly moneysaving as the milk was more expensive than i could have got at the local fruit and veg shop but SO determined to stay in budget!

  • Can't beleive I am up at tis time of morning and posting spends but DD3 is off down to London to see Handball final so has to be at school in half hour so anything to keep me awake!:o

Anyway DD2 still not well and DD3 started with similar symtoms to what I had couple of days ago so not a very mse day yesterday.

    Spends to declare of

£5.27 Mr M's (inc half price crackers) and whoopsie stuff for pack up and tea.
£10.13 - local shop (inc bottle of wine - one and half small glasses for me last night with sparkling water and one glass to friend. My treat for both of us having a naff week!)

Total £15.40 to add to sig.

Oh and on a note of deer road kill - 2 colleagues I work with have differing stories.
First one actually was driving her now hubbys newish car and two deer jumped over a hedge in front of them. Unfortuantely the car killed one of the deer(could not avoid it) and made a lot of mess of the car. Passengers all fine but the car looked like it had been in a pile up! Police at the time actually asked if they had made contact with the deer's owners as these were owned by someone! Her answer was she couldn't find the collar(plus there wan't much left)

Second one was another colleague was behind a car that again knocked down a deer, he jumped out, made sure the animal was out of its misery which it was (neck broken)and hauled it into the back of his car. Then spent the next two days trawling the internet on best way to prep it - he said it was the best venison he had ever tasted.
I thought that as long as the person in the vehicle who knocks down the animal does n't pick it up, it's ok for others after them to pick up road kill - but not sure, think its soemthing to do with showing no intention to harm the animal to gain from it or maybe it's a drivers myth or probalby because I am typing at a daft time in morning too!

£15.29 to add to sig from yesterday in mr a. Got pack up stuff and some whoopsies.

We was going to pressure wash our patio this morning and then go to the allotment this afternoon but might have to re-think as it is raining here and so windy.

    Morning.

Well, I'm over now but only by £15.71 (so far) so not too bad. I should only need bread and milk and eggs 'til Weds and will do some baking. I'm just debating whether to nab the very last of the milk for another cup of tea as I'm the only person up. I will, I deserve it don't I?!

Hope everybody else is where they want to be this month.
August Shopping Challenge. 26/8. Budget £250 Spent £256.81.. £6.81 over. So £0.00 a day left.
