Thanks for the feedback ToastLady about the red lentils.  Think I'll be giving them a miss too!  Will try and get some mung beans to sprout as I'm sure DH would be OK with those as I think someone said that's what the beansprouts you buy in the SM are.

I love flavoured vinegars.  I usually dress my salads with vinegar of some sort (I try to avoid oily dressings).  I'm using a walnut one I bought last year when I was in France at the moment.  I did have some raspberry but that was finished some time ago and hasn't been replaced.  Really must get round to getting some more flavoured ones.

About mung beans - I found some didn't sprout or soften - I nearly broke teeth on them, so just be a bit cautious, of course it might just have been that batch. I actually like green (also called brown - flat anyway) lentils, they sprout well for me. I thought the shop ones were alfalfa but again could be wrong there. Happy sprouting!

Think I'll have to have a look at the beansprouts next time I go shopping, just to see what they are!

Your vinegars sound lovely Squirrelgirl, I really must try making some berry ones this year. I have done pineapple in the past which was lovely, the good thing is you just use the skin and core. It's strawberry season at the moment, so I should have a bash at that, think that might be rather nice.
Joedenise - Lol, was glad to be a guinea pig with the red lentils. Walnut vinegar sounds lovely too. I always have walnuts in, so that's another idea to try out.
  • Never done a pineapple one toastlady- another great idea! 🙌
I've been online today with the intention of getting 5ltrs of white balsamic to do a pomegranate vinegar and nearly fell over! 🙈 The only 5ltr one I could find was about £25 but comes from the states and had a £90 shipping cost 😲 nope- not doing that! 😂 I've decided that I'll get some white wine vinegar instead and try that 🤔 might be horrendous but I shall just make a small bottle to start - I can always use it for pickling something if it ends up being yucky! 😉

Good grief, I would have passed out at the cost of the balsamic! Think trying with white wine vinegar is a good idea. I didn't use any vinegar when making the pineapple, was just water, sugar and I think there may have been some cloves. It's a bit like making apple cider vinegar from scratch. I just buy pomegranate vinegar as it's not expensive. I keep thinking to make it, but never quite got there.
  • Toastlady, I've never tried making vinegars from scratch - although some of the wines I've made could have quite easily have passed for it 😉😂😂
Off to internet search it now though! 😁

There you are, you see! Making vinegar is easy.........you just have to pretend you’re making wine! 😂😂

Edit......ooh! Just thought! Maybe if you try making vinegar, it’ll turn out nicer than nicest Cabernet Sauvignon!

😂 😂 😂 Love it. I've never made wine, but hubby used to. I can easily drink some vinegars, especially the fruity ones.
Squirrelgirl this is the recipe I used for pineapple. https://www.fermentedfoodlab.com/how-to-make-raw-pineapple-vinegar/

    😂😂😂 definitely worth a try Pyxis! 😉

Toastlady, thank you for the link! 😁 I've had a quick mooch and it looks very doable! Dh loves fresh pineapple but as I'm not overly keen, we don't buy it often as it's a lot for him to go through (I normally cut up what's left into small chunks and freeze it to put on pizza but don't eat pizza that often either!) he's going to be over the moon that we have a new option! 😁
