The sprouting chickpeas are doing well, looks like most of them now have tiny sprouts. I'm hoping they'll be ready to use on Monday when I'm next planning on having salad. Think they'll add a lovely bit of texture to it. I'm really looking forward to trying them. Does anyone know what beans they use for the beansprouts that you can buy in the supermarket?

Don't leave your chickpeas too long as I did, otherwise they will turn into a smelly sort of soggy mess. I should have settled as they were with shorter "sprouts".3 -
Thanks ToastLady. I'm hoping they'll be OK until Monday. I tasted one this morning as it had a much longer sprout than any of the others and was quite nice if a little firm. I might even try growing a couple - my sister says she's grown them from dried chickpeas in her kitchen cupboard before so worth a try, I think.

Joedenise, if they are ready before Monday, just bag them and pop in the fridge. Interesting thought growing them, although I don't have any room to grow stuff, other than in pots. Am useless in the gardening department, keep forgetting to water stuff, unless it's in front of my nose, so just have some trees and a hedge, which look after themselves. I do keep meaning to start a herb garden in pots again.2

I only grow in pots as don't have any garden as such. The front is half grass and half paved. The back is all paved although DH has this week lifted a couple of rows of slabs and dug out a couple of feet deep and we're going to line it with weed suppressing membrane and then fill it with top soil so that we can grow some stuff in it. No idea what yet but hopefully some veg! We've got some plants coming this month so if we can get the top soil soon we can plant them in there, otherwise it'll be in pots.
Thanks for the tip about putting the sprouted chickpeas into the fridge if they're ready before Monday. Will do that.2 -
Just for info, the lentil sprouts bagged and in the fridge are still absolutely fine, had some with dinner tonight, so they've kept well for a few days now in the salad drawer. I think I'll stick to doing lentil and mung beans for now for sprouting purposes.4

While digging out the stuff for seitan today I found half a bag of mung beans so may have a go at some sprouts 😉
My garden is starting to be sorted next week so hopefully by the end of May I'll have 4 big raised veggie beds! 🙌 (I'm having 5 beds made but one will be for cut flowers 😉) I'll start the seeds this weekend and we should have enough room to pretty much keep us in fresh veg throughout the year 😁
I've had to cook the cabbage today as it had gone ropey on the bottom so that's in the fridge now ready for Sunday.
Seitan burgers were lovely and the meatballs are in the freezer - I'm pretty convinced that I won't need to cook at all next week! 😂

Wish I liked gardening Squirrelgirl, have always hated it, suspect it was years of hay fever making my life a misery. I don't seem to suffer from it now, but I do whenever I go back to UK, cut grass is the worst. I don't mind pots though, and have a nice wee shaded spot now to have them outside, so will definitely get started again when I can get some seeds. Good luck with all your beds.
I've never made seitan. I've had mock chicken from a Chinese shop, which I think must be seitan? Perhaps one of these days I will give it a try.
Candygirl, your air fried peelings sound yummy. I must start peeling some veg and give it a try....I rarely peel potatoes or carrots unless they are looking a bit iffy.2 -
My sprouting chickpeas are growing nicely. Still not quite ready but will probably be ready tomorrow so I'll give them a final rinse and then pop them into the fridge to have with lunch on Monday. Looking forward to them.
