HD tele, problems getting HD programmes. Help please

CH44 is between Ch41 and CH47

This is a good idea, always worth checking when you're having trouble with freeview reception. It mostly applies to the higher groups, as the drop off is most significant on channels above your aerial's band.

In this case, Llandinam is a Group B relay, and was group B before switchover too, so it's unlikely that her aerial is out of band. Plus the fact that the HD mux falls between the SD Mux's and I think it's fair to say aerial grouping isn't causing the issue here.

The next lines of questioning would probably ask about the type/model of aerial, the quality of the coax cable and the like, to see if local interference could be causing any problems.

Yep, doesn't sound like the problem then. In my old house there were 6 muxes, and I didn't realise for ages that I was missing one. Fortunately I only found out when I couldn't find e4+1 or something, and found that I was also missing a load of rubbish shopping channels etc too!

I've noticed that missing the COM Mux's isn't actually missing much at all

Okay, update for everyone. TV guys just been out with a new tv. Changed tele, still cannot get freeview HD. Spoken to a local aerial engineer who says that "yes, we should be getting the HD channels). Just spoken to a guy who is a real aerial/tv guru and he has said it must be the aerial (could have too strong a signal so needs to have an attenuator fitted to bring signal down) but then said that "he wouldn't throw too much money at it as due to BBC cutbacks, BBC HD is being scrapped anyway". Think I will save the £45, the aerial guy quoted me to check my aerial and put this towards a freesat HD box and go this way.

Your aerial/TV guru could be right and your aerial could possibly be working more effectively on CH44 due to it not having a flat frequency response. This may be giving too much signal on that one channel and overloading the receiver. See the various gain graphs here

If this is the case then you could try inserting an in-line attenuator yourself, for a couple of quid e.g. here

I doubt if he is right about the BBC scrapping HD though, even with all of their cutbacks!
