HD tele, problems getting HD programmes. Help please

This is true, but as welshsue mentioned S4C HD I assumed she's using a welsh transmitter - all of which were switched over a year ago.

If you use the Pontypridd Transmitter, the HD mux is out for repair today.

Have been on that site and put in my postcode (SY17 5JG) and is shows I come under Llandinam transmitter. I think the one we can see is a relay transmitter but this is no where near Llandinam. Due to the amount of hills around here we cannot see the Llandinam one as its behind a hill.

Totally confused now. Have looked on ebay and there are people selling the aerials which allow you to pick up HD but don't want to spend out if I dont need to.

The tele is a Sanyo CE32FH08-B and it clearly states in the manual it is DVB-T2 built in tuner which is HD.

Hope someone can help further. Thx Sue

p.s the aerial is on a vertical plane so should be ok

Don't! There is no such thing as an HD aerial, you need the correct "group" aerial for the transmitter and that is all. Aerials don't care if a mux is HD or not.

So your local Transmitter is Long Mountain, and your nearest relay is Llandinam. From the sounds of it you are receiving your freeview from a smaller, more local repeater. I think we need to try and find out where your signal comes from to be sure that it's transmitting DVB-T2/MPEG-4

Don't throw money at this just yet, there's no such thing as a HD aerial!

Thanks for that. How do I find out where signal from and what its transmitting. Should I try my local tv repair shop in Newtown and see if they can tell me?

still very confused.
Have just spoken to the company who supplied the tv and they have agreed that it is definately a full HD (including freeview HD). They have also looked up the digital info for my transmitter and agree that it says 4 HD channels are being transmitted and signal is v good. They are going to bring out another HD tv and see if we can pick up HD on that. If we can, then we know its the tv, if not then its a problem this end...

I know the terrain in mid wales makes the 'coverage checker' a bit hit-and-miss. I used to live in Llandrindod (before switchover!).

Even so, the coverage stats suggest 100% signal strength and quality from Llandinam so I'd bet you're getting it from there.

The three Mux's on Llandinam are:

C41 - BBCA
C47 - D3&4
C44 - BBCB HD

There should be a setting within your tv to find out which channels you are receiving freeview on. Start a manual channel search (menu, installation, manual scan) to see signal strength for each channel - if you have good signal on the above channels, you're on Llandinam.

If you can actually see the transmitter and its being amplified the signal could just as easily be too strong.

One other point to note is that in areas with more marginal signals, the HD channels are the first to go off the digital cliff. It's possible to have a clear picture on all SD channels and no picture at all on HD, if your signal strength falls between the SD cliff and HD cliff.

Ok, sent Hubby into the loft to disconnect the booster. The aerial is direct to the tv now. Still getting perfect normal freeview channels.
Tried manual scan on channel 44 and the signal quality and strength comes and go's. Either says v good or none.. vv strange.
TV company bringing another HD tv out next wednesday to try and see if we can get HD on that. Will post back once they have been.
