HD tele, problems getting HD programmes. Help please

Have just had a Sanyo HD tv with built in freeview delivered.

It says I should be able to get freeview HD channels, have checked on the freeview website and it says I can get a few of these. Have tried re-tuning tele and not receiving any of these, can get normal freeview, not HD.

Could it be the tele, or do we think the transmitter is not set up for HD?

How do I find out. Thx Sue

You need a TV with a " freeview HD " tuner not just a "HD tv" with a freeview tuner, a transmitter that is currently transmitting HD channels and an aerial install capable of receiving them.

Go to do digitaluk.co.uk and see whether you have a local transmitter showing good reception for the HD mux and go from there.

According to the manual it has a built in Freeview HD tuner(DVB-T2/MPEG-4) and i should get 4 HD channels(BBC HD,BBC1 HD,ITV1 HD & S4C Clirlun) starting on Ch 50 but when do a scan there is no signal on any of these? All other channels working ok. I can actually see the transmitter from the House only approx 2 miles away and no obstructions in the way.

Yes but does your aerial on your house support the receipt of HD signals?

Its not just a case of the TV and the transmitter, the aerial must be able to get HD signals.

I didn't think i'd need a new aerial as get good reception on standard freeview?? It is only 5 yrs old with booster in loft for other rooms in House

Your aerial can still be out of band for a particular mux though. so std freeview reception is no guarantee.
having said that only at 2 miles from the TX expect even out of band signals to come blasting thru

No such thing as a HD aerial, it's all about the signal strength

The HD mux is PSB so it should be broadcast from all transmitters, not just the 'full' ones. Have you tried a manual scan on just the frequency your HD Mux is on? (eg C21 on my local transmitter)

welshsue - what's your TV brand and model - have you maybe been missold a TV thinking it had FreeviewHD built in when it does not?

Hi, have you checked that the local transmitter you are using is not a relay transmitter and that you need your aerial re-aligning on to the main transmitter.

Quite often the aerial lies in a horizontal plain for the main transmitters but is rotated through 90 degrees when on a relay.

Would it be possible to post an approximate post code for your area ?
