They seem to want to get rid of banks. What would they be replaced with?

Hopefully, I will be better equipped to answer your question after tomorrow, but my own intention is to provoke debates like this at every opportunity

There are more and more 'anti-bankers' wherever you look, and given the lead story on the BBC 10pm news just now, it appears that the politicians are chasing each other down the road and out of sight at an ever-increasing speed

As much as anything else, I would like people to at least consider the possibility that we are about to move into an era which may be uncomfortably similar to the first half of the 20th century, rather than realising the exciting possibilities which we all looked forward to at the dawn of the new millenium

maybe speaking in plain english might help the dialogue

my general view is that the ability to borrow and lend can increase the welfare of both parties.

however banks are in a rather privileged position compared to other companies (that is an institutionalised truth, and one of their privileges is their untouchability) so should be closely regulated; so things like capital ratios etc need to be regulated and the types of assets controlled (that is Communism)

I support simple banks that borrow money from us/commercial companies and then lend money back to support investment and appropriate spending

the size of banks should be restricted and the number increased to increase competition (which I approve of as I think it is for the general good)

innovation is a real problem with banks as clever complex 'instruments ' have proved very bad news.

I don't know the full answers but in general banks have enabled a vast increaae in wealth for us all (that is what Capitalism is supposed to do, but we are currently seeing no such result)

That is the question which world leaders may very soon have to begin to consider

The first half of the 20th century was a period of massive worldwide upheaval, including the introduction of Communism and the birth of the Labour Party/Trade Union movement

    Get my drift?

I could see that a world bank could be on the cards. Owned and run by the Chinese. Should make all the left wing protestors very happy.

What are they actually asking for in practical rather than philosophical terms?

Whatever it is they don't seem to be able to communicate it very well.

    Someone here thinks they're anti-banker.

On the interview today they didn't mention banks at all. Just the Tories cutting pensions. Then went on to discuss how they were all in the tea tent after midnight. Whatever that means.

I really have no idea what they're protesting.

Pretty sure they don't really know either.

Not long ago, you said they all went home at night for a hot shower...

Are you sure what you believe?
