all the same, why act all angry because you have WON a book?? I would be happy anyway, and if you really think it's gonna go and collect dust in your house then give it away. The problem here is that you saw "Take a break" on the envelope and got all excited thinking it was something more entertaining (in your opinion). Maybe you could use this chance to start reading?? It's not going to do you any harm and you might even like it.

Sorry but this sort of things really annoy me.

It's annoying for everyone, though, if people are being entered for competitions they're not interested in.
The people who should be most annoyed by this situation are those who entered this competition to win a book. Because the magazine has entered the OP into the competition, the chances of others winning are reduced.

From the OP's point of view, perhaps the annoyance is that if Take a Break have done the same with other competitions then the chances of him winning those will have gone down. And he doesn't even benefit from this as he doesn't want the prize he has won.

At the very least, sending out an unwanted prize is a waste of the earth's resources. The OP is the only one who can be sure that they didn't enter this competition and so the OP is the only one who is likely to be particularly annoyed about this.
  • I never win anything in TAB - :(
A small Thank You can make a BIG difference ;)
  • I once opened a TAB letter...and got all excited...and had won cat flea treatment! Still...our cat was happy :-)

I also wouldn't like to be entered into a competition I hadn't chosen, partly because I wouldn't have agreed to any T&Cs that competition may have, or any information sharing that may be included with such an entry. Granted, it probably doesn't matter in this case. Just donate the book OP, or give reading it a go first :)

Its a bit like entering a comp to win a car and getting the runner up prize of the spare wheel - useless. Years of comping and winning nothing now this - makes it hard to stay optomistic !!!

Many years ago I entered a prize draw in a shopping centre to win a customised sports car ... it was bright orange with orange leather interior ... run by Orangina ... a few weeks later I got a phone call from Orangina to tell me I had won one of the FIVE runners up prizes of a T shirt. I sat on the stairs and cried ... when the first prize is a car, its kinda cruel to give a T shirt as a runner up prize ...

You worked it out in the first line 'act all angry' Thats exactly what it was acting. The only serious point i was making was how annoying it was to win a prize i know i didn't enter and has the same thing happened to others. The lines about doorstop, gathering dust and spare wheel were clearly at bit of humour to make it more interesting - mainly wasted effort i fear. How can anyone be so easily annoyed ? how sad. I thought forums were supposed to be a bit lighthearted.

ok well again sorry if it seemed I overreacted, of course by saying annoyed I didn't mean I started screaming and shouting and throwing things at the wall :P but it did annoy me that instead of thinking, "oh well it's still a win" or even better "I'll give it to someone who might want it or give it to charity" you just thought of complaning. Yes you might not have entered to win a book but you entered to win the main prize (or am I wrong?) so therefore you had chances to win that book, too...

Sorry I don't really have anything constructive to add, but I'd be happy to win a bookmark right now! :rotfl: :D
