Well not to go too much into detail but how disappointing it is to win something you either didn't even know you entered or don't want. A letter arrived on the mat this morning with 'Take a Break' all over it. We excitedly opened the envelope to reveal 'youve won ........ a book.' What !!! A book ?? I remember entering some of the competitions for TAB issue 40 but there was no mention of a book !!! What a let down and total disappointment. Nobody reads much in this house and this will be no more than another thing to dust or makeshift doorstop. I know we should all be grateful for anything that comes free but why send prizes that are not mentioned or related to the stated prize. Its a bit like entering a comp to win a car and getting the runner up prize of the spare wheel - useless. Years of comping and winning nothing now this - makes it hard to stay optomistic !!!

Yes, you should be.Thank you all who post.0 -
If you tick the giveaway boxes it is probably one of them. Most people would welcome a win of any kind. Always read carefully what you are entering. If you don't like the prize on offer don't enter and let someone who wants it have a chance.£2 Savers Club for 2022 #120

If you don't want the book why don't you donate to a charity shop so they can sell it and raise some funds to help people less fortunate.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

There really is no point in entering competitions unless you're trying to win the item for yourself, for presents, or with intentions of selling and raising money for whatever, failing that there's charity organisations or eBay!
Failing that, if you win a prize you know you won't be able to use, contact the company and let them know they can donate it to another winner - I've done this with several of my prizes when they've conflicted with other arrangements, or I haven't wanted the item.Thank you, to all those who make the comps forum, what it is.0 -
I think you should be pleased you got something / anything as a prize ! give it to a charity shop if you dont want it and the comping fairy might forgive you for sounding so ungreatfull !0

Or send it my way??? I love books - even technical manuals - LOL
My preferred method of re-cycling unwanted prizes is to pop them in my Xmas pressie box. There always a relative or friend who will be grateful that you remembered them:)
But comping fairy has been good to me this year so far, I've managed to snag a goody at last every month so far, even if it's a cleanser or a Merlin day pass; all is gratefully receivedNoli nothis permittere te terere

Lots of people on here would be delighted to win a book or anything from Take A Break - just count your blessings - I have just won 100 spudshillings on Facebook Mccain and I am well pleased. Like a few people have said if you dont want the prize then dont enter for it in the first place and let someone win it who does want it and to save your self the dissapointment of not winning cash, holiday or car.0

If you aren't going to read the book, like Triker said, please donate it to a charity shop.
I can't think who posts Take a Break, but they always state what the prizes are. I know i don't enter all the Take a Break comps as some of the prizes aren't of any interest to me, but i'm extremely grateful to those who take their time out to buy the magazine and post the comps.
Always read what comps you are entering for.0
