Hi all, didn't know this thread existed until now.
Getting married in December and last year my friend bought me a pot which is called a pot of dreams for saving coins in. The pot is approx 1 litre capacity. We have saved every £2 coin we have had and when friends come round for dinner they also put £2 coins in. After approx 16 months the pot was full. We carefully drilled it open (you are meant to smash them but it was too nice to do that) and counted £960!!!!!!!
This was the difference between scrimping and affording the last few things for the wedding!
Good luck everyone!0 -
we have been saving £2 coins in one of those spindles you buy blank CD\DVDs in. I got an empty 100x CDR spindle from work, super glued the base and cut a slot in the top. Have been saving two pound coins in it since end February 2008. Just counted them up and banked £1552.00. This goes a long way to our spending money for our next trip to Florida in 2010.0

Just discovered this thread-I've been saving £2 coins for several years but always take them out of my cat (like a pig!) just before I go on holiday and buy euros-on line of course!!
Twice a year I've found more than £100. I was really pleased with this as you don't actually miss the money from your purse.
Only problem I've only saved 3 coins this month-the Royal Mint needs to produce more!!:rotfl:0 -
it gets to the stage where both my wife and I feel guilty
if we have to spend a £2 coin. We "buy" them off friends, relatives and work colleagues. I have made a new £2 coin spindle and hope to collect another £500 before we fly to Orlando next year.......should be a few more in circulation in Nottingham now I have banked our collection of 776 coins......:j

Hi all!
I've just started - so far i have £4! £2 yesterday and £2 today. I even smiled when i was given my change in Tesco
So can someone explain the whole story, i have got the gist from looking over everyones post but not 100% sure on the rules?
Thanks!0 -
I also would like to know the story behind this thread! I have collected £80 in £2 coins since feb and just spent £50 of them on a posh meal out with friends I only see once a year. Well worth it I reckon, as I wouldn't have been able to afford to go otherwise. Don't seem to have hardly had any in the last few weeks but its good how quick the miney adds up when you do get them.Challenge savings 2010-2016 £1564.60:j
Sealed Pot Challenge #220 :staradmin :staradmin '16 £17.010 -
I've been saving £2 coins for years now. When I was a student I used them to pay for birthday and Christmas presents. Was a bit of a nightmare when I'd take a tenner out to a pub night buy a drink for 99p then get £8 worth of £2 coins in the change. Good for the liver though!
Now I haven't spent one for around 3 years. I can't bear to part with them! Will take something very special for me to spend them. Which I'm sure is totally against moneysaving rules as I'm earning no interest(
