And don't think that just because you've figured this baby out that the others will be the same........ they're all so so different :)

That is so true. I have four and I always have a little smile when someone with one tells people how right they have got it. In almost every case they have a second, or maybe third, and suddenly find none of it works.

My four were all different but the one consistent thing was they all hated being swaddled. I know lots of people swear by it but it never worked for me. I have had the whole spectrum from the little angel who just got put in he cot at 7 and slept 12 hours for the first three years to the little horror who screamed non stop for three years and only slept when in my arms and breastfeeding.

When young moms at work tell me they are having a terrible time with baby not sleeping I always tell them that in my case the angel became Kevin the Teenager and the little horror became a sensible, mature teenager who caused no probs. They all get you sometime

  • you say she is going 3-4 hours during the day? does this mean she is sleeping 3-4 hour periods, if so i would suggest the problem is she is sleeping too much during the day and thus not that tired at night. Quite surprised noone else suggested this.
  • I can only speak from my experience. My dds slept all the time when they were this young the thought of trying to keep a newborn baby awake is silly in MY opinion.

She's nine days old! All they do is sleep and eat.

  • I bet your head is absolutely swirling from 1001 different opinions and suggestions from all the books and advice from family and friends!

Trial and error - do what ever works for your little one, even if it's dancing to Slayer in the kitchen at 4am to calm her down. They're too little to learn bad habits at the start so try not to stress yourself too much trying to do 'the right thing'.

I hope you and your OH are having a lovely time enjoying your new addition :) xx
