    Hi,
Was playing with our new gateway laptop last night, brilliant! Our first laptop and i would highly recommend it. We could get online without plugging in a usb adapter, is this correct? Lorraine

its got a wire less adaptor thingy built in so no need for you to plug anything in.

We have the blueyonder netgear wireless access point through the tv drive box, but our netgear adapter was plugged into our desktop pc?

The only thing i noticed was the lack of a manual about the laptop. Is this normal with laptops?
Found a lot of help on the uk gateway website though, but just wondered if the manual was missing or that they dont give you one with these?

Anybody else who has received this laptop, did you get a manual please?
    Many Thanks
    Lorraine

The manuals normally come on the PC/Laptop nowadays rather than in paper form so have a search for any PDF files on the laptop.

I'm not attempting to hijack this thread - but you guys seem to know what you are talking about.

I want to buy one of my kids a laptop - got a budget of around £400.

I plan to install a wireless router thingy on my PC which has telewest broadband so I need a laptop that is wireless too.

Aside from the Internet my kid likes playing the Sims 2 - so I don't think a top notch graphics card is an issue.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks in advance,

    Duder

    Just ordered one too!

..... Should have checked beforehand, is it Vista Compatable. Anyone know?

I have Vista from my TechNet Subscription, however, just need to know whether it'll support it. :-S

Refering back to post #7 it appears to be as an upgrade :T
  • Thanks peeps for your replies.
How do you get the vista upgrade then? Do you receive something via email.
Also, when we put the first disc in to set up we havent registered our windows, how do we do that? We also havent set up outlook express yet,as i have this running on my desktop will it muck anything up with the same email
address, i dont know enough about that?
Also, i think i need telewest to come and install a cable modem, as at the mo we have netgear access point plugged into tv drive box and netgear adapter ma101 into desktop which is wireless enabled anyway.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Spoke to telewest and i am more confused than ever. I though i would be able to go and by a router and plug into tv drive but they said no, that i would need a cable modem and router to run desktop, laptop and xbox 360 (this is currently running on somebody elses unsecured network we found out last night!)
    Thanks again...
  • Hi again,
Sorry but i forgot to ask one thing.
Do you also need a wireless access card for the laptop to work with telewest stuff? Just looked on their site at their self install wireless (which i already have, but really old) is says you need a card, but as someone already said this is built into the laptop already.
    Cheers

Derv mate, ive done a bit of work in a computer engineering workshop and personally i wouldnt go for it if it was half the price. The only laptops i would reccomend are toshiba and high end acers ;)

If this was the case you'd know they're called Notebooks and not Laptops.
If you look on Dell, Acer and Toshiba websites, you'll find they're called Notebooks.

It's the likes of PC World, Dixons, Comet and Currys that call them Laptops.

HP have got a much better reputation than Acer will ever have.

You dont need it as it is built into the laptop already. What you need is a cable compatible (sp) modem router.
