  • The more horror stories I read on here about GPs, the more grateful I am for mine where there is a normal number, online appts, the ability to book at the reception desk and extremely pleasant receptionists! It seems this is a rarity, so I feel sorry for anyone who is unable to get the help they need when they are ill. I agree that a letter to the practice manager is the way to go, although not much help in the short term...

To be fair, I doubt it's actually a rarity. The only people you hear from on here are the unhappy ones so it skews perception somewhat.

    Argh!
Didn't go over earlier, my son decided he didn't want to go out, and had a nap instead :/
Trying to call now, and I'm being charged 30p a time to be told "the surgery is busy, call back when it isn't"
The surgery is Kingshurst Medical Centre. Can't find an 0121 number for them anywhere online. :(
My old GP was amazing. Always had appointments available, had been my GP since birth, 0121 contact number, lovely receptionist, but they retired 2 years ago and sold the surgery to developers :(
Now I'm stuck with this total waste of a surgery!

  • I'd be horrified if my surgery did that. I am guessing that the calls all go to a central number which allocated appointments for different surgeries. I'd be tempted to phone the hospital and ask them to make me an appointment as I couldn't get one at the surgery - at least their number is free from a landline.

I'd talk to the Practice Manager and if necessary record a formal complaint. Although I'd also be looking for a better practice.

sounds like all GP's are going down hill, i was pregnant 6 years ago and i seen my midwife lots and it was soo simple to get an appoinment for that same day.

Now i here people who only see their midwife a couple of times and i know myself that trying to get through to get an appointment is a nightmare, very very rarely can they offer a same day appointment ( i hardly ever go to the docs, but when i do need to phone them its usually for a problem that i want looked at as soon as possible) often its a week or 2 later. i recently gave up trying to phone them, i have a problem with my foot, but i could not get through to them, so i've just left it.

I think it's because there are lots and lots of new houses being and have been built around this area over the last 15 years and i think thats maybe the problem.
