Having read this thread over the last few days I decided to do a big shop at Aldi's. It's a bit out of the way but I remember being really pleased with the quality last time I shopped there. Lots of comments like 'oh they're nice chips we'll have to get them again'. Spent about £109 bought loads of stuff so looking forward to trying it all. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I bought some Ballycastle Aldi's irish cream (£3.99). I love Baileys, but usually buy the supremarkets own brand which I expected it to taste like. But I have to say if someone had poured the Balleycastle for me and not told me I would definately believed it was Baileys. Not weak, no aftertaste. Also got my 4 bird roast (£9.99), won't be trying that til xmas day though!0

I do 95% of my shopping at Aldi! I do a big monthly shop and spend about £80 for the two of us, and then top up with whoopsies from Asda or Co-Op throughout the month if we need it or I see a really good offer.
There's not really been anything we haven't liked from Aldi that I can think of from the top of my head
We've never had a problem with the meat, frozen or fresh, and I love the cereals and cereal bars. Yogurts are great value and really nice too, and I always buy a couple of big multi packs of crisps which taste just as good as a big brands and are far cheaper!
Having said that though, apart from washing up liquid and detergent I don't buy cleaning bits from there. I tend to stick to Wilko where I buy a 1l bottle of lemon liquid cleaner for about 26p and a huge bottle of bleach for around the same amount.0 -
Just started using Aldi Lacura under eye concealer pen. I normally use Clinique, but I have used Boots No7 & the Garnier rollaball one but the Aldi one is far better. The coverage is excellent and its only £3.59!0

i used to use expensive garnier face creams,we are skint and it was recommended so tried the aldi lacura one and it honestly is amazing!!!! i wont be going back to garnier even when i can afford too.
and i could do a full shop in aldi.....i would say at the moment we do 95%+ of ur shopping there with a once a month visit to asda for black sacks, caddy sacks, frylight, fat free from frais.....but even these are things i prefer from there, not things i have to use.
the cold meats are amazing at aldi as are the cheeses...these would be the two stand out must buy items, along with the super 6 in my book.but we absolutely love it in aldi.0 -
I'm a fairly recent Aldi convert, £40 shopping does 3 of us for well over a week, it can even stretch to two. Tesco and Morissons prices make me angry, and I went down to Aldi to see if there was anything decent for a once a month visit, now I even pop there when we have run out of basic items like bread rather than go to Tesco Express which is only 2 minutes away as opposed to ten to fifteen minutes.
Items I like are;
The veg; it's cheap and fresh and what I usually spend most money on.
The chicken - you can get a whole free range chicken for under £5, ordinary chickens for under £3, a pack of 3 chicken quarters for 99p. It tastes fresh and is much nicer than my local Tesco and Morissons chickens. Other meat we tend to get from the butcher (I am against factory farming and so go for free range chicken and beef and lamb my butcher gets me) but I only eat meat around twice a month, ditto chicken and I don't eat pork or duck etc. If you aren't fussy like me, the meat looks great and would be worth a try I would think. The smoked gammon steak is gorgeous and excellent value according to family. Tinned corned beef very good.
Free Range Eggs; Massive tray for much cheaper than what I've seen elsewhere. They taste good and are excellent value.
Cheese - excellent selection of cheeses at bargain prices, some of the cheeses (i.e Mozerella) are vegetarian, it's worth checking the label. Find the low fat grated cheddar in a bag useful.
Frozen Produce; the golden fries are great, the extra special Yorkshire puddings divine, ice cream wafers beautiful, apple crumble best my mum has tasted, chunky breaded fish fillets great, spicy fish goujons good, smoked haddock best I've tasted. Vegetable lasagne a bargain at under £1 and full of veg, really different to any other vegetable lasagnes I've had. The cheap vanilla ice cream is great, cheaper yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes are also fantastic. We are huge fans of the cauliflower cheese.
Biscuits - the malted milks, digestives, rich teas etc are just as good as the originals and cheaper. Chocolate biscuits ie copycat rocky's, blue ribands are as nice if not nicer than the originals and cheap. Chocolate mallows are lovely. White chocolate and cranberry cookies divine!
Snacks; boiled and jelly sweets are gorgeous and so much cheaper than you get at the cinema etc, so we prefer to go to Aldi in advance of a cinema trip. Chilli peanuts are GORGEOUS and the fruit and nut mixes are brilliant and so much cheaper than in other shops. I especially love the Craisins which I mix with a cheap nut assortment from Aldi. Linessa diet crisps, multi-pack only 89p and much nicer than any other low fat crisps I've tasted. Multi pack of 24 assorted crisps are only £1.99 and my family prefer them to Walkers, as they are lighter, less oily and don't taste as salty. Melts taste exactly the same as Skips. Excellent chocolate selection, lots of continental treats like the Mosser Roth truffles, the champagne ones are divine.
We love the fruit and fibre type cereals, the instant porridge oats and the speciality porridge. The no added sugar museli is fantastic, shredded wheat bitesize type cereal tastes no different to the original brand.
Also love the part baked dinner rolls which go lovely with soup. The multigrain Village Bakery Bread is my favourite bread of all, I love it and it is so much nicer than what I get in other supermarkets.
The Sicilian jar of pasta sauce is beautiful and we also like the fresh ravioli and tortellini. The jars of curry sauce with separate spices in the lid are also very good.
The Del Rivo Orange juices are even nicer than Tropicana in my opinion although not very cheap. The no added sugar soft fizzy drinks are brilliant and very cheap. Fizzy water lovely.
The jams and marmalade are fine as are all of the condiments I have tried. The balsamic vinegar is an absolute bargain.
Magnum washing up liquid is much loved in this household.
Each time I go I try more and 9 times out of 10, I'm impressed!
Only things I'm not keen on are the steam fresh brussels sprouts and the citrus fruits which can be bitter or go off quick. Also don't love the imitation kit kats lol.
The other thing I love about shopping at Aldi is, although I live on the same road as a massive Tesco Extra, it is much quicker for me to visit Aldi as it is no where near as crowded or as stressful to shop in. It's a much more pleasant experience!0 -
I dont understand why some people are so up themselves about only shopping in Sainsbobs or M & S or even Tresco! (my sil is like that - she was once heard to mutter as I was telling my sis about the amazing chicken Jambons in Aldi - I wouldnt set foot in there - you dont know where they get the food from!)
Her loss! Posher people than her shop in MY local Aldi!0 -
I rarely venture into Aldi, had a read of this thread and tried the orange juice someone said was akin to Tropicana and that was really nice, also tried one of those curry sauces in a jar with spices in the top and really enjoyed that.
Picked up some German Ham,not tried that yet and told my friend to try the extra special Yorkshire puddings, she's picking up some today.
Thanks very much for taking the time to post with recommendations.0 -
Also got some bars which my OH said taste the same as Kelloggs Nutri Grain bars, they were 99p for 60

Some recent buys I've been impressed with are the low fat yogurts and mullerlight type yogurts, the creme caramels, norpark light butter, fresh chicken tikka slices, savoury pies, diavolo pizza, reed diffuser, slipper socks, and the baked apple sweets in a Santa tin are lovely. Oh yes and the Maris Piper potatoes are great!0
