Yes every human being on this wet rock is entitled to shelter.
That shelter has to go on a piece of land, so as i see it we are all entitled to a piece of land to build our shelter on.
You are entitled to that shelter but not to own the shelter. If you don't own the shelter then you don't own the land that it sits on. If we build decent apartment blocks in cities then we can maximise the number of people living on a patch of land.0 -

So who owns the land ?0 -
So who owns the land ?
Well I own the land that my house sits on because the house is freehold. Often houses are leasehold where you own the house but someone else owns the land and charges you a small fee each year for the rental. If you rent a private house, then either the landlord or a third party will own the land.
The laws are different for apartments but I have never owned one so you'd have to ask someone else. I do know that several apartment owners can club together and buy the lease for an apartment blobk but I don't know if the lease is somehow connected to the land.0 -

i dont think that the NIMBY brigade can be blamed for the problems we are facing. After all none of us would "want it in our backyard" if we could do something about it!!! Why the hell would anyone want 25,000 new homes on their doorstep when there wont be the infrastructure to support it?!!!
The problem here is that successive governments have failed to address the problem of social housing. We need social housing. Period. We dont need amateur BTL brigade morphing into Victorian landlords. Government could address the problem by building a lot of housing to meet the demands of the population. They should then charge appropriate rents. They should remove people's right to buy for those who live in social housing or housing association. Private tenants have to pay more in rent & dont get the option of right to buy. Nor do they get the luxury of long term rental stability.
Stop blaming homeowners for Governments' failures - it isnt fair. Only government can fix this by acknowledging their own faults - social housing needs to be like being green - if you sell a social housing property, then the money should be used to build a new social housing property - not to prop up civil servants pension schemes...
By the way - Im renting privately - I would love to pay the subsidised rents that LHA tenants get. In my area I am paying double what a LHA tenant pays for same size property. I have no choice.0 -

You could try claiming independence for your roundabout. Set a zero tax rate and set up to rival The Caymans.0
