I'm obviously a bit cruel as I'd never do this for my boys! My boys are made to responsible for their own things. they get a new pair each and if they lose them they fund a new pair themselves. Strangely they've both only lost one glove each themselves.
  • but i suspect your boys are older than preschoolers, reception and yr 1, so therefore able to be more responsible? if not then i reckon your very lucky! :-)
  • I'm 44 and still lose gloves each year. Luckily, now I'm a gardener I always have a stash of gardening gloves in the boot so I just end up using those. Then, come midsummer's day, I find the lost winter gloves and put them somewhere 'safe' only to forget where that actually is once they are needed again.

I'm thinking though - gardening gloves on string. It's the way to go. I'm off out later to get some.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • I still do it for all my children, even the older one but its not allowed at the school due to some kids slapping each other with the elastic or tying each other up at playtime.

But we can use safety pins if we wish.

That school wont allow skipping ropes either, or peanuts, or cereal bars that have chocolate chips in them. Its a bit of an extreme school.

  • AS previous posters have said - I work in a primary school and I'd tell you to do it! But I would name both of the gloves too!

My Mum knitted me a pair of gloves for Christmas last year. She also sewed a name label into each one and attached them with elastic.

    I'm dead serious! :rotfl:

if you have an old pair of trousers with an adjustable waist you can use the elastic from them and a couple of buttons
  • Excellent thread. Like another post I had a coat for DD last year with gloves with tape and a button on to attach inside the coat sleeve. These could be easily made at home with some bias binding and buttons, then the child had the option of easy removal if being laughed at.

I've been french knitting a pair for my DD since last winter.

Problem is I forget about it and can only do it when we are travelling long distance in the car because the children constantantly want to have a try.

Just don't cut the elastic too short. I remember spending most of my childhood winters feeling like my arms were on springs because my mum never used enough elastic. Either that or you'd take one cold, wet glove off and if you weren't fast enough it'd fly up your sleeve ... that's a horrible feeling.

I remember this! My mum cut them too short too...
