Id love mittens on string and Im an adult lol.Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together0 -
I bought coats where the gloves attached to the inside sleeves with a ribbon and button or popper.. fantastic they were too!!!
my older ones keep hats and gloves in their drawer not with the coats in the cloakroom.. they are thrown about or stolen or forgotten otherwise.
I have before made twisted cords and attached the gloves to those.
at 4 I would put them on a wally string if it prevented gloves being lost frequently and kept the child warm. I doubt anyone would notice TbhLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

At our school it seems to be the done thing in the infants. However they do ask that you put them on cord and not elastic as otherwise there are some 'pinging' incidents.Sorting my life out one day at a time0

yesterday i bought some elastic in 1m strips and this morning whilst the kids were eating breakfast i sewed their new gloves onto them and then threaded then throught the coat hook of their coats to avoid the elastic being pulled out. i've done this since they were babies. i remember gloves with elastic as a primary school child and my kids have no problems wearing them. in fact my reception son this morning asked if i'd remembered to buy the elastic, as i had promised, to sew on. the previous day i'd sent him in unprepared and his gloves ended up in his draw and stayed there, luckily they came home today. Next time i may not be so lucky.
What is the deal with elastic gloves for young kids?
I've also used some clips where you attach the glove then attach the other clip to the coat sleeve.........result, lost glove and clip. Not happy especially as it was pink and peppa!! And that was my 2year old daughter last year. So i really think at this age when they are busy with other stuff elastic threaded through the sleeves AND also the coat hook to avoid elastic being pulled back through and lost is essential. To parents who have found their child's coat hook broken, just cut up another piece of elastic and resew in.0 -
I'm 27 and I searched for mittens on a string for years, finally last Christmas my mum gave me a set, found in Topshop I think, and I love them. I have them through my work coat and everyone in my office loves them too. I've noticed lots of mittens on strings in Primark this year so they must be in style.
I'd say go for it.0 -
Just don't cut the elastic too short. I remember spending most of my childhood winters feeling like my arms were on springs because my mum never used enough elastic. Either that or you'd take one cold, wet glove off and if you weren't fast enough it'd fly up your sleeve ... that's a horrible feeling.0

and the other way not too long so they dangle in the wet if they are taken off and your child reaches down to pick up something.
if that seems likely just push the glove up the sleeve first and have two sets on the go, one in the wash and one in use.0 -
btw gloves can be easily hand washed by 4pm after school and hung to dry on a radiator overnight or airing cupboard if dirty, muddly or plain yuck, so don't need to put the washer on specifically.
i like the way elastic gloves can be transfered from one winter coat to another, esp when it snows and things get wet.0 -
I did it for DD2 6 - 11 years ago. So did a lot of parents after they saw me do it.
The ex removed them because he decided DD would be treated as mentally defective. This was shortly after he'd seen a comedian doing a routine about them.
He then complained repeatedly about how she never had a pair of gloves and why was I buying a new pair every week.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
