Getting rid of milk smells in car

  • I've majorly messed up and need your OS help.

I spilt about 1 pint of milk in OH's car whilst on a journey. We tried febreezing it about an hour later after mopping it up with a towel. Then yeseterday he Vaxed it and today he has vaxed it again after taking out all the seats. Unfortunately the carpet doesnt come up and it still stinks! What can I use to get rid of the smell as it is really nauseating. Kids practically refused to get in the car this morning.

I have aromatherapy oils in abundance if that helps.

    All ideas gratefully recieved.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Neutradol should do the trick, we did the same once in a holiday home :o
    This worked for us. HTH

Edited to add, it would be useful if I'd have said you can buy it from all supermarkets/wilkinsons etc.

let the stain dry completely. Then buy a couple of tubs of Bicarbonate of Soda. Sprinkle one tub all over the area. Leave overnight or for at least a few hours. vacuum the Soda off. close the car up for a couple of hours and check if you can still smell it - may be faint, or if you are lucky gone completely. if still there use the other tub of Bicarb and leave overnight. vacuum up and THIS time it should be gone! I used to do this when the dog got car sick and she was an expert at making sure she missed all the plastic and newspaper I used to put down!
  • When I was working I used to often have the odd spill in the boot of my cab (I was a taxi driver for 22 years ) and any unused aftershave that OH didn't like at Christmas was saved to use to deodorise the carpets.Sprinkle first with Bicarb and leave overnight then hoover and spray with aftershave. My late Ma-in-law for some reason would insist on buying all her sons as part of their Christmas presents Imperial Leather Aftershave or Brut which my Oh didn't like but didn't want to hurt her feelings, so I'd save it to make my taxi smell better so it didn't get wasted :):) as I worked in London, and she lived on the Isle of Wight the twain never met :):)
  • Try some Simple Solution - a product designed for pet accidents.

The above link is just to show you the product - you may be able to shop around and get it cheaper. I bought some recently to use on smelly 2nd hand clothes bought from ebay and it worked a treat ( along with the Febreze, vinegar and soda crystals I blasted them with :) )
  • Thanks for all the help. We are going to try bicarb today now the carpet is dry and then neutradol. If that doesnt work then its off to the pet shop for me. All car doors are open to try to get rid of the smell before we go off to the shops!!

Neat alcohol (I use a bottle of cheap vodka) works really well at getting rid of 'organic' smells like spilt milk, vomit, pee, and so on. The alcohol contains enzymes that eat the bacteria that cause the smell. It's the only thing I've found that really works.

  • This happened to me once. My advice - sell the car!

I tried everything and although alcohol and bicarb helped, the smell never really went away

You need to use biological washing powder (not non-bio) and give it a good wash the enzymes kill the bacteria bi-carb will work on the smell but it wont get rid of it in the long term, with the bicarb push holes in the lid of the tub and leave it in the car in a cup holder or pocket and get a cheap smell absorbing air freshner Mr T do one for 80p ish make sure you leave the windows ajar if its safe to air it out and to let it dry or the car will be full of smelly condensation
I spilt a 4 pinter in the car a few yrs ago ruined 2 mobiles work and personal and my handbag

  • i second the bio washing powder paste!......my son had a very unpleasant poo accident in our hall and we tried bicarb and all sorts of stuff but the only thing that worked was leaving a thick paste of bio washing power on overnight then using the Vax the next day...no trace of pong left :D
