This happened to me a few years ago. I sprinkled it liberally with bicarb, left it for a good few hours, then vacummed it up. Bicarb really works for getting rid of smells. I had to to the same thing the other day when my daughter threw up on the lounge carpet (I've spent the last week of the holidays changing bedding and mopping up vomit as all three of my children have had a tummy bug. What joy!)0

I'd second that - I had a stealth spill of milk in my car that I didn't discover til after a very hot weekend - it smelt like a corpse! Well, how I imagine a corpse to smell
I cleaned it the best I could then I bought a MASSIVE pot of bicarb and doused the area really thickly, the carpet was white. Don't stint on it. I left it over night before I hoovered it up
And the smell was gone! TA DAAAAAA!
Good luck with cleaning yours up xxComps £2016 in 2016 - 1 wins = £530 26.2%

You were lucky! We tried bicarb and loads of other things before giving in and having the car valeted! That did work so it was £40 (ouch!) well spent. I know just what you mean about feeling sick all the time!Resolution:

My DD has spilt milk in her car.
She's had it shampooed since & it stinks.
I only found out about it today.
Any tips?0 -
Hi Mrs E,
I've added your post to the existing thread that has advice and links that should help.

Help! I had a bottle of milk which leaked in my car (on the floor carpet behind the passenger seat!). I didnt notice until there was a bad smell....which I initially put down to my dicky tummy! When I investigated further I realised what had happened (about 5 days after the event!).
I have tried twice to clean it, with a stardrops/vinegar/water solution, but its not shifiting. I cant really afford to get it valeted, and I don't have a vax type thing (and neither to any of my friends). Any OS advice to help stop my car smelling like a foostie cheese factory?0 -
Sorry to have to say, but sour milk is one of the most persistent smells. I'd try sprinkling the area with a good layer of bicarbonate of soda and leaving it at least overnight. Good luck!0
