salt is also good at getting rid of smells. Put a thick layer on and leave a couple of hours, sweep it up and put another layer on and repeat as many times as necessary.0

biological washing powder with a scrubbing brush?0

One option is to go to a pet store and buy a product for cleaning up pet stains that contains enzymes, I have heard this is amazing for removing milk smells etc. The other option is to contact the customer services department of the store you bought the milk from and explain the situation, this happened to a friend of mine and the store refunded the cost of a valet. Hope this helps xIf you obey all the rules...you miss all the fun!! Katherine Hepburn0

Hi tartantotty,
This previous thread may help:
Getting rid of milk smells in car
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

I feel for you i really do!!
This has happened to me in the past, and the smell is awful in such an enclosed space especially....
Fortunatly for me my car at the time was a proper old banger, my solution was to cut the carpet out and replace it with a rather fetching flowery off cut my mum had from her living room at the time!!
Hope you find a solutionEveryday im shufflin' Proud Padder ~ All Hail The Power of Pad0 -
I did exactly the same thing recently, but in the boot. A scrub and fabreeze did not get shut, so I bought a strong gel air fresher that you take the top off and have had that sat in my boot for a few weeks now. Just cleared car out ready to go to garage for MOT tomorrow and the smell has gone.0

I didnt notice until there was a bad smell....which I initially put down to my dicky tummy! When I investigated further I realised what had happened (about 5 days after the event!).
I have tried twice to clean it, with a stardrops/vinegar/water solution, but its not shifiting. I cant really afford to get it valeted, and I don't have a vax type thing (and neither to any of my friends). Any OS advice to help stop my car smelling like a foostie cheese factory?
You don;t really want to clean it with an acidic mixture (which vinegar is) as the sour milk is acidic itself. You need to neutralise that with something alkailine, such as bicarb, ar break it down with enzymes, such as are found in biological washing powder or liquids.
Good luck - as someone who once allowed melting butter to seep into a back car seat, I know how persistent degrading dairy can be:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Thanks for all the advice people - I knew you would come up trumps!:T
Penelope - I never even thought about the acid/acid thing - duh!
CarolnMalky - It was my own fault, it was a wee bottle and I had a scoof out of it, and thought I had propped it up ok, so it wouldnt leak, and although I took the bottle out of the car, the liquid that would have been visible had soaked in, as it was there for a few hrs and bumpy country roads! Hiya, These a special sort of air freshner you can buy, it sounds like the word neutralise, its got a blue label on the front. I can't remember the name, but I'm sure you'll spot it, or someone will know.
Its not air freshner as in a smell, but it neutralises smells IYSWIM, we spilt some milk once in an holiday flat, thats how I know
OH was ready over my shoulder, he says its Nutradol.0 -
Just to let you know - I used a mixture of value bio washing powder, warm water and a scrubbing brush, and really went for it - scrubbed and scrubbed for ages, and then used hot water to 'rinse'. Towelled off as much of the dampness as I could, and then left the car for 2 days, with the windows open in the day to dry the carpet and freshen up the car.
Friday night I covered the carpet in bicarb and then hoovered it up yesterday. Car smells a whole lot better! Am going to keep opening the windows on fine day, and get an air freshner, but its a HUGE improvement!
Thanks again folks!! :beer::j:T0
