I have been receiving replies from Gumtree, with the standard "we are looking into this". Today I was informed I had submitted an invalid email address, which I hadn't and the refund would be showing in my account. Strangely the refund is in my bank account already.

I have submitted a complaint to Consumer Direct, and will let you all know if there is any resolution.

  • Well, my fiver is back in my account today. Still not impressed that the deal didn't go through.

Hi everyone, we're really sorry for the issues some of you are having with Gumtree Daily Deals at the moment, specifically the PayPal deal. We can assure you that the deals we share with you are legitimate.
If you are experiencing problems with the PayPal deal please email support@gumtree.com with your name and the email address you provided when redeeming the PayPal deal, and we’ll do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
  • I got mine through no probs. The Gumtree team themselves applied it to my account as, for some reason, it wouldn't accept my email address when I tried to do it myself. I didn't realise there'd been issues until just now! Feel sorry for all you guys who aren't getting the credit :(

I had forgotton all about this until I was checking back on old emails. Have just checked my account and £15 was credited to my Paypal account on 11 Nov 2011. I did use my primary confirmed Paypal address. Hope everyone else gets a satisfactory result eventually. having read all the problems its gonna make me think twice about using Gumtree deals again. Not had any problems when I use Group On and KGB Deals.
    The end is nigh
  • Checked my credit card statement, received my refund.
Disappointed, but at least I'm not out of pocket.

I too had the 'e-mail address not valid' line, strange as I put over £1000+ a month through it with Paypal. I will no be fobbed off with this excuse and as far as I'm concerned they have taken payment for a deal which others have got.

and posted it on Twitter to get their attention.

So if you have Twitter please Tweet:

I am sooooo disgusted by their 'customer service'

I don't have a twitter account so I can't post on there but just wanted to say I have tried to log into my account several times today and it says: Email is unregistered
Needless to say I am disgusted with them!!

Mine logs in fine! They have told me to get paypal to rectify the issue, but now they have given me a refund how are PayPal going to rectify it? In my last email to the i said:

I have noticed this morning that I have received a refund for the Paypal deal that I purchased. I just want to say that I am extremely disappointed in the way this matter has been dealt. Firstly there has been little useful information from you side, secondly I was not told that the issue has resulted in a refund, which to be honest I would have refused as if feel getting £5 after paying £5 to get £15 is a big let down. As yet i have not even received an explanation as to why the deal failed despite me purchasing and redeeming the voucher within the allotted time.

Please respond answering my queries. I would also like some degree of compensation or an additional £10 to make my refund the same as the deal outcome, due to the horrific service I have received. I would also like to take this moment to say that after this experience i will never use Gumtree Daily Deals again, and will be writing a blog post about my disappointing experience of your service.

    Kind Regards

    Nazilla

    To which they replied:

We've just received noticed from Paypal, the email address you submitted was invalid. If your account is indeed valid, you must contact Paypal directly to rectify this issue. Your account has been refunded £5, the reversal will appear on your next credit card statement.

Not particularly helpful, or polite, or answering most of my questions.

Not a very safisfactory answer at all from gumtree! I am disgusted with their service/lack of communication and will never purchase from them again :(

I thought it was just me having problems! I contacted them on the 10th to ask if I had redeemed in time as I feared I had forgotten. The lady was very nice, said I had redeemed in plenty of time am my deal would be visible soon, there was a small delay due to high volume. I accepted this but 48hrs later, still nothing. I contacted them a week later and had no reply. I've now contacted them again this morning to ask again when money will be deposited in my account. I see the inital £5 has been refunded which Im not happy about, firstly because many others received this deal and secondly, because I was told it was on its way! Not impressed at all.
