  • I have now moved my already exhausted brain to the OU essay about the aforementioned brain and how our memory functions, but seeing as I struggle to remember my own name sometimes, it's not going very well.

Oooo, I didn't do too badly on cognition, memory etc - what's our essay title?

    Merry Christmas Nora:D

By, there is no better test of your endurance and patience than Families At Christmas Time. I had several fingernail marks in my palms by the time I left mine yesterday:p

And I have my 4 step children coming today , wish me luck

Don't push yourself so hard. No normal person can cope with moving home twice in a week. Sometimes its nice to wallow on someone elses sofa for a while, at least until the chocolate runs out.

Give it another couple of weeks to recharge your batteries, you'll know when its time to make the next step.

How can the way in which we organise our thinking by using mental images, concepts and schemas help us improve our memory :(:(:(

I know what to say, I just don't know how to say it :(:(:(

i wouldn't know where to start with that one freebyfifty, thank goodness i didn't study that whilst at uni.

How are you feeling today? i'd be surprised if nothing happened whilst you were at your grandad's, i'm already getting stressed about moving and i don't even have a moving date, and two half days with my lovely nephew's and neices and i need to spend time in a dark room with chocolate.
  • Hi Nora

Sorry to hear about the meltdown, but probably better to do it now and head back to mum's than to push yourself further and have a worse one later. And good that you have lots of fab family about :T

More chocolate, more sleeping, more positive thinking. I've also been playing with spreadsheets and plans for next year... about to have a go at this too

I like the sneaking in under cover of darkness idea... you could just turn up to breakfast, like you've been there all along...

Ahhh, do you know how to mind map (or brain storm as we used to be allowed to call it!)? If so, start out with one of those to help you clarify the levels of thinking (ie difference between conscious and unconscious thoughts), cover the different types (mental imagery etc.) briefly, and look at the marriage between the two - things like mind-maps, mnenonics etc. My favourite schema/script is the driving one - have you been given it as an example? If not, it's a fab one to cover....

Alternatively, tell us what you want to say and we'll add in the nice random long words like before...because that's the kind of study support group we are around here...;)
  • Been thinking about budgets and MSE-ing etc, and thought it was about time I did one of these for the Jan wages, and then another for Feb as it'll be about £400 less than this one in earnings, but also in debt repayments...

Statement of Affairs and Personal Balance Sheet
    Monthly Income Details
Income from Employment (after tax). . 1,900.00
    Monthly Expense Details
Mobile Phone(s) . . 10.00 This was an original suggestion from my first SOA, and is working really well!
Gas . .45.04 final bill (in credit on electric and debit on gas, so this is the difference between the two)
Water . . 60.00 waiting on final bill, overestimated for budget purposes.
    Council Tax . . 0.00 cancelled - may even get a rebate!
    Overdraft Cost. . 7.88 I know - don't yell!
Mortgage/Rent . . 200.00 Everyone is saying I'm welcome rent and bill free, but I don't agree and it's important for me to contribute where I can - so nominal rent to whatever relative I've landed with!
    Storage rental . .96 (£24 pw x 4wks)
    Food and Household Shopping . . 30.00
    NHS PPP Card. . 10.40
    Petrol/Diesel . .40.00
    Car Insurance . .39.32
Car Maintenance . .50.00(covers tax, MOT, service and a little for any problems/towards paying the insurance in one go next year).
Credit Card Repayments. . 146.00 will do more on this next month once I've bought down the overdraft.
Personal Loan Repayments. . 887.89 Last payment on one loan, so this will be £500 from Feb onwards (which includes an overpayment)
Pocket Money. . 80.00 (This is an experiment - I've decide to give myself £20 pw in Jan to cover odds and sods, like coffee, chocolate, a drink out etc. If I've got it, then great, if not then tough).
Birthdays . .20.00 I have one birthday this month, and at the moment haven't heard of anything specific in terms of plans.

    Total monthly income. . 1,900.00

    Total monthly expenses. . 1,722.53

I'm earmarking that difference for any potential birthday celebrations as mentioned above - otherwise it'll go very nicely on the credit card repayment! :D

I did get some money for Christmas - but I'm being tight, and putting that towards my 'guess who wants a Kindle' savings pot...on the bright side, at least I've not simply gone out and bought the thing on a credit card!! ;)

Have you checked that your loan does allow overpayments, and that they give you a benefit?

Yep, and yep - been overpaying for nearly a year now. Go on, admit it, you're almost impressed...;)
