    Deramores have 10% off James C. Brett Chunky until Dec 20th and a further 10% discount with the code Rav2011 (from Ravelry) and free P&P if you blow £20

    This obviously explains why I've just bought yarn. Pootles out singing Happy Christmas to moo.... happy christmas to moo... happy christmas dear moooooooo

    It seems like ages since we've spent any meaningful time together - how the devil are you?

    I promise I've been lurking around other diaries just to keep up on the madness, but what with the madness of moving, Christmas and doing my goodbye tour of the county, it's all a little manic here.

    This morning was the final stage of non-family third party involvement in the move with a local charity coming and collecting eight boxes of stuff I'm donating.

    Hmmm, I sense a disturbance in the MSE-force - and assume that's all the ebayers shuddering...truth be told, until my recent LBM I donated everything - to the point that the collection chap once asked me how I could possibly have anything left to give!

    Since donating things makes me feel lovely, I've continued to do so, even as an ebayer - I like to strike a balance between what I try and sell, and what gets donated. For example, any clothes with an obvious sale value (Monsoon, Boden etc) have gone on ebay - but the stuff from Sainsbugs and Tescos goes to charity. Not saying it doesn't/wouldn't sell - it's just my way of giving back.

    In time, I actually want to get into volunteering (as even now, I really don't have much else to sell or donate!!) - it's on the 'Great Plan of Nora' list...also known in this house as the "I'm-Not-Dying Bucket List'.

    So, the house is sporting a lovely sheen of Beruit-chic in every room. Fun projects today include:
    • a final round of sorting paperwork (followed by years of shredding no doubt!!);
    • first coat of paint on various bits of woodwork (well...at this stage it's really just polyfiller...shhhh, don't tell the Landlord ;));
    • finish the rest of the washing (it's never ending!!);
    • box up anything left which is not desperately necessary between now and Monday - darling parent popping up tomorrow to take a car load back...
    Plus I have therapy and dinner at a friend's this evening (she's showing off as she has things like a sofa to sit on...and Christmas decs up....:D).

    On the finance front - honestly, I think I've stopped caring at the moment. Yesterday I agreed a £34 charge from the council to bin two beds.

    One I would have run to the tip easily enough, and the other is perfectly fine for charity/recycling - 3 years old, clean, has fire tags....but the amount of hassle involved in trying to get a charity to take it just got the better of me. With one charity, I was getting less than impressed by the time I'd rung the third store recommended to me only to be told again that there was another number I had to call... then I rang the local furniture exchange only to find they're closed for the second half of the week, so I tried two other charities and again got the run around.

    Admittedly, I should have been much more organised and sorted this a couple of weeks back - but still....anyway, the lovely lady at the council has sorted it all out for me and £34 seems a small price to pay for the sense of utter relief!

    I think I've previously posted about BT fleecing me - but again, their dark arts aside, if I'd had my wits about me then I'd have been able to avoid the additional charges.

    Utilities are metered so it's just a case of final readings being taken on Monday. I've completed the council tax form and should get a little rebate from them in time. I've done the same for the tv licence - though can't send that off until I've got proof of moving....but again, will get a little refund.

    I've had a lot of interest in the knitted wraps, so there should be an opportunity to up my income a little to take the 'ouch' out of some of those final bills.... and given that next month I'll have considerably less to pay, and one of the loans will be done...plus I'll have a generally better grip on my money and my sanity, I'm as excited as everyone else about really getting into the debt repayments.... because I've still got my eye on that snowball repayment date...and it should be afraid....very afraid...:D

    Anyway, best get on - this house isn't going to sort and clean itself (though oh, how I wish it would!!).

    Have a good 'un!

    sounds like you're balancing everything as well as possible at the moment Nora, often we think we should sell things or do this, that and the other to avoid costs but eventually we just have to do what's best for us at the time and in both yours and my cases at the moment 'get stuff out of the house'.

    just been reminded of another reason why being on the huge side is not a good thing - the number of balls of wool you need to knit anything for yourself is just rediculous :(
