The saddest of days today - one of my two fav 'borrow-dogs' (dogs which I have daily fussing and walking access to, but which actually belong to my bestie) had to be put down this morning. So I'm mostly a snivelling wreck - though a functioning one as (weirdly) upset tends to see me cleaning the house. Nope, me either!
In brighter news, I'm making a job lot of stew to freeze - the house smells gorgeous and properly autumnal.I truly love this time of year for making it perfectly reasonable to curl up on the sofa with a book and hibernate.
Tomorrow I'll be blanching carrots and onions before freezing them - all thanks to Jack Monroe's cookbook, 'A girl called Jack' which I fell in love with a while back because of its thrifty ways, and am now working my way through (soooo many things to do with the stash of lentils I seem to have acquired!).
The freezing excess veg thing is still quite new to me - so it's as much an experiment as a thrifty move. First lot of broccoli didn't go to plan, as I hadn't learnt about blanching then.... still onwards and upwards!
In other money-saving news, I actually spoke to BT earlier this week with the intention of cancelling my broadband as something which is a luxury rather than a necessity. Unfortunately I'm mid contract (ends in April 2015), which I'd forgotten. They very kindly offered to end my contract for £167...such nice peopleHowever, since it costs me £15 pcm and I've 7 months of the contract left, it's actually £62 cheaper for me to leave it alone!!
On the bright side, I'm not in contract for the telephone line so come April I think I'll cancel the entire lot - I never use the landline (which, these days, I suspect is the case for many of us), and realistically don't make the most of the BB either.
Wow, here we are in October, and I have financial-like plans for April... :rotfl:
Hope everyone else is having a good'un

So sorry about your friend's dog, it is so awful when we have to let them go, I do hope that canine friend had lived a good life span, it is even worse if they become ill or have an accident when "too young" and for me there is a teeny consolation in knowing that they have been spared further pain.
Hugs. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -

She was a rescue that had landed on her paws with my friend and had a lovely life for nine wonderful years (av life expectancy of breed is 7 years). She'd been very ill this week, so I'm with you on the teeny consolation point. Doesn't stop the snivelling of course, but it helps. xx0 -

NORAAAAAA! :j
How lovely to see you again! Though sorry to hear about your bestie's dog (hugs) - it's so hard and always a shock, even when they have had a lovely life. And I understand the cleaning thing though not the logic behind it, as I do that too.
I'm glad to have found another autumn fan though - so I needn't feel alone among the SAD sufferers

Thank you macpumpkin. It's lovely to see you too. I also need to catch up on diaries!
I'm also a massive fan of Autumn. It's my favourite season. I bought 2 pumpkins last week ready to carve this weekend! How can you be a SAD sufferer with all the lovely colours out there?
I hope you're feeling better today Nora. Losses like that can hit so hard.0 -
