Ok, I know zilch about websites and all the techy stuff, so my comments are purely from the perspective of a potential customer.
1. Ditch the pink, there's just too much of it and it's nauseating!
2. I'd like to see detailed descriptions of the pieces, and some of the phrases you use are a bit vague - e.g. faux beads doesn't tell me if they are faux in the sense of being good quality glass imitation diamonds (or whatever) or in the sense of being cheap light plastic. Personally if it's not stated I'd probably assume the latter. When you are buying online a description is all you have to take the place of picking the item up and trying it.
3. I can see on the home page that shipping is free (though I had to wade through lots of text to get to it) but if I hadn't noticed it it would be good to have it pointed out on each product page so I don't have to go searching to find out once I find a piece I want to buy.
4. I'll say it again - get rid of that horrible pink, it cheapens your site.
All the above are given in a genuine attempt to help you improve your site. Well done on setting it up and making a good start on your sales.
A few of years ago I made and sold jewelry and found I did very well at craft fairs and jewelry parties. It was very hard work but the money was there. However I gave up a couple of years ago because the big supermarkets started importing nice stuff and selling it at less than I could make it for. I do think you have chosen a hard sector but wish you very good luck with your business.Oh dear, here we go again.0 -
Good luck, as others have said, sort out the vat thing, it could probably land you in some trouble if you're not sending out vat invoices with purchases.
Theres no reason not to start on your redesign before september, if things take off your advance hosting fees will probably look like peanuts.0 -
Have just had a look at your site, and one thing really comes to mind, I am assuming that you buy in all the jewellery that you resell, you really need to put in the descriptions what the base metals are. You also need to know if the metals you are selling comply with the nickel rules (ie very little or no nickel in them)
Most reactions that people have to metal is the nickel and they will be looking out for jewellery that they know will not give them a problem, and there is nothing on the selection of items I looked at to give them this information.
Another thing... do you have product liability insurance? If not, then you really should have.
Hope this helps
Thanks, I do quote on my Terms and Conditions that all items are Nickel Free (yes I do buy from a wholesaler - all items of which are Nickel free), but I will be adding this info to all item pages in the New Year.Princess Tinks0 -

Thank you for your advice - yes my huge problem is I LOVE pink, I will look into this properly in the New Year. My descriptions I take straight off my wholesalers item description page - they don't really go into much detail so I will email them about this.
I have also arranged to hire tables at local churches and community centres starting in the new year.Princess Tinks0 -
Look at the site I think the OP buys her jewellery in so should have a good idea of what her base price is.
OP I would second what someone said about a logo, it can make a big difference to any site and they do not have to be expensive.
One other thing that may be worth looking at for now is to use your domain in your email address rather than your Yahoo one, it looks more professional and should be easy to set up with your current provider.
Thank you, I have contacted 123.reg re setting up an email, I get 5 free email addresses with the type of account I have with them - and I agree that would be more professional.Princess Tinks0 -
