My site has a jewellery section and is probably the least successful part due to the intense competition. As has been said jewellery is a very competitive area.

I see your prices include VAT. Why are you VAT registered with such a low turnover? This makes you uncompetitive or cuts into your profit margins. If I have got it wrong and you are not VAT registered take any reference to VAT off your site.

also if you are VAT registered then you need to display your VAT registration number on your site, if your not VAT registered then you need to remove all references to VAT from your site

I can't see your delivery charges for the Uk anywhere? If you start to check out all you get is the line :

Shipping and VAT calculated on next page

so you have to log in with your payment method before you even know what the end price is going to be.

AS has been said above you are in a competitive market and you are actually quite expensive for 'cheap' costume jewellery.

this is why i took my jewelley site down, even though i was hosting it myself on my own server it just was not making enough money to warrant keeping the site live as the time taking to keep it up to date out wayed the income it was generating

you also have the safebuy logo on your site but fail to adhere to their code of practice http://www.safebuy.org.uk/code-of-practice.html
2.1 The site must use the SafeBuy logo as an active link (hyperlink) to safebuy.org.uk where this Code of Practice is published. The logo must be given sufficient prominence that every site visitor is aware of your membership of the SafeBuy scheme. The logos may not be used on any site the owner of which does not have a current subscription to the SafeBuy scheme or which SafeBuy considers not to be compliant with the SafeBuy Code.
3.3 The total price, including packing, delivery and VAT where applicable must be shown for the complete order before consumer final agreement to place the order.
    4.1 The website must specify:
    the name, physical address of the principal place of business, email address and telephone number and the company number and VAT number where appropriate;

Thank you for being honest, it's always best to be. I brought an e-commerce package and got a site together myself and I know it needs a lot of work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am not doing too bad, I have sold a couple of hundred pounds worth of stuff and have had great feedback about the jewellery itself and a very happy customer in the Netherlands which has pleased me.

I have come very far this last few months, I have slowly recovering from a 6 year battle with depression and I wanted to do this as a way of proving I am good at something. So I will would appreciate all suggestions from everyone. And any help.

Have you tried Etsy or whatever the craft website is? That would be the easiest way to build your trade. You could then work on converting these customers to your site by including flyers and perhaps a discount voucher with all orders.

With your own site can you put any money towards a designer even if it is just a uni student to set you off on the right path? It would also be worth calling Business Link and see if there are any local enterprise groups, many give you initial advice for free.

Personally I think while Princess Tinks is fine as a name for Ebay I wouldn't suggest it as the name for your website and brand. That might just be me, but I'd urge you to get some more views on it.
  • OP I really would redesign your whole site. Simple is always best, really. I don't have problems with my sight (apart from age!) but I just find it very difficult to 'see' anything properly.... what about accessibility for people who do have problems? Very messy........ that's not said horribly, just a bit of constructive, impartial feedback. :)

Oh, and well done on starting up on your own, it's a very difficult thing to get going so you've done well. You never stop learning though so keep at it.

Shipping is free - although I think you need to state this on every page as it's quite a big selling point, I don't think your prices are too bad but from what I've seen the jewellery is the stuff I would buy for my 3 daughters (8, 12 and 13 years old) and not for myself - maybe that's an avenue you could explore. I'm in agreement with everyone else that the site needs an overhaul and this should be your first to-do.
