Maui. Ive been there 7 times and got married there this year - thats how much I love it ( and I am someone who hates to go back to the same place more than once). Some of our guests are already working out plans to go back and none of them had ever been before. Anytime I see any of them its the first thing they talk about. Its a place that is whatever you want it to be - you could spent the entire time lying on a beach or you could spend the whole holiday doing a different activity or visiting a new place each day. We do a bit of both.

The weather is also good all year around ( 83/84 in winter, 86/87 in summer - thats their 'seasons'). The only time with a potential for it being slightly worse because it could possibly rain a bit would be Dec-Feb. But then thats humpback whale season so I want to go back at that time anyway!

Some of my other fav places - Vietnam - amazing culture, food and people. Tokyo - for the same reasons.
  • The Canyons and national parks in America also Las vegas, not only for the scenery and the glitz but the people.

Cali, Colombia. The women are drop-dead gorgeous, and they go around in extremely skimpy, provocative clothing. But I'm not sure the wife would appreciate this as much as I do!

Yosemite , California , for the amazing scenery and tranquility of the place, close 2nd and 3rd would be grand canyon and san diego ( in fact a west coast road trip... basically!)

    Myanmar (Burma) in February 2010.
Hired a battered out Toyota Corolla taxi/driver/guide for 3 weeks.
    Visited all the major sites.
    Beautiful country, super-friendly people.
My back's not been the same since though:)

Cappadocia (the land of fairy-chimneys and underground cities).
    Fly to Istanbul.
A few nights in that fabulous city.
Overnight sleeper train (Ankara Express) to Ankara. Overnight train travel in a foreign country is always a highlight.
Couple of night in Ankara. It may be a capital city, but it's young, vibrant, and has lots of history. The Mausoleum of Ataturk is a fabulous (free) place to learn about the often bloody history of Turkey. Ataturk was the founder of modern Turkey in the 1930s.
Day-time bus (5 hours) to Goreme.
Take your time and explore that one-off part of the World, staying in
    fairy-chimey hotels or B&Bs.
Then re-trace your steps or explore more of Central Turkey.
Far from the madding crowd of bog standard tourism:)
  • Thailand, Malaysia and New Orleans for the music.
    travelover
  • Revisit my youth!
  • Fly to Rome....just loved it there
    Then on to Athens
then to Luxor...just loved the History
Fly to New York,Washington and Vegas then travel up to Vancouver because they are all unique
Then go across to Sydney...Why? because it's Sydney! Then up to Uluru and Darwin
Then over to New Zealand to the South Island again
Back home Via Hong Kong,Bali and Singapore.
No it's not my imagination I really have been to these places!
I have recently discovered both my great great grandparents on both sides were great travellers so it must be in the blood.

I'm with you on Maui - not to keen on Oahu though.

I have never been to Vietnam before, however, I will be going there for the first time in December.

Sometimes I think that a place you visit leaves memories of not what the place looks like or the people - but what you were doing and who you were with at the time.

A bit like music really - certainly in my case I have some naff songs on my ipod - but they certainly bring back happy times.

Pompeypete.......I'm sure you are referring to the car being 'battered out' - not the poor taxi driver! :)
