  • I see that kirstie is being discussed on the `debate house prices` thread. Some people just don`t like snowglobes

I love them and I am going to try felting soon ie a hot washed old jumper, cut the shrug shape and use blanket stitch all around with thick yarn

gailey, it is all about building memories, a bit at a time, just one or two items a year. Like a heart or two or a snowglobe. Then every year they come out and then add whatever the children make over time. Kirstie just crammed it all in to get the programme made. I`ll never forget sitting around a table as a small child, making chains from packets of gummed strips. I wonder if you can get them anywhere

Well, we in house prices ''had'' Kirstie first. I just grin at some of the comments and I don't think it will ad to the live of most (but not all)OSers to read the Debate line on Kirsty. Some people, not just there REALLY hate her nd its trrifying how many mysogenists there on the internet!:D

    Hi all :)

I've merged the two Kirsties home made threads together.

You certainly can, kittie. :D In fact, they seem to be really popular at the moment, I've seen them all over the place.

We made these as kids and, when DH's three were younger, I decided they would be part of the Christmas traditions we were trying to build in the house the children didn't quite think of as home since they were only with us at weekends. However, at that time, I really struggled to find the strips in shops so we ended up buying gummed coloured paper squares and cutting them into strips ourselves - much cheaper as it happens. ;)

Since the kids grew up, it's fallen by the wayside and, with our first Grandchild due in February, I'm really looking forward to bringing them back in a couple of years.

I think this is a great cheap crafty thing; either use an old jumper or get a cheap one from the charity shop. You could add peoples names or personalise with buttons or even sparkly bits:

OT but..... HOW DOES THAT WOMAN DO IT???!!!! The woman on "Imperfect" Homemaking? I've never seen such a tidy, perfect showhome in my life, and she has 5 children including twins under 1????!!!! Boggles the mind! (Or maybe everyone else is just less slovenly than me???) :o

Gosh that brought back a few memories We would buy them for 3d a packet in Woolworths and my brothers and I had to make them every year.We also made Chinese lanterns from sheets of Chrismassy paper cut up and decorated and Mum made the glue from flour and water.Very few decorations around after WW2 to buy in the shops so it was a case of inventing stuff as you went along. If the ' rich' side of our family sent Christmas cards we always saved them from that year to use the following year as decorations. One of my Aunts lived in New Jersey anone year she sent some amazing stuff over to our house in London and every bit was used up.She even used to stuff the sides of the parcel with stockings for my Mum to make sure any baubles didn't break. Our garden had a large holly tree which was handy as we could get my eldest brother to cut some for the dekkies. The tree was always bought from the local market a week before Christmas and was decorated often with home made stuff and cotton wool as 'pretend snow' Presents were often home made as well as there were few toys available to buy anyway in the 1950s .My eldest brother made me a dolls house from orange box wood painted green and I treasured it for years

I've just finished making a heart garland from the Home Made Christmas programme and am really pleased with it.It didn't cost anything as I had all the materials already.

I only had three different Christamas fabrics but used bondaweb to stick tartan ribbon onto some plain dark green fabric so some of my hearts have a tartan strip down the middle. Those hearts were a bit harder to sew as there were four layers of fabric in places. I used gold coloured organzie ribbon to thread the hearts together.
