have to say, the only dog I was ever bitten by was a poodle. I was sat on the floor eating sweets, probably a bad move on my part but I was only 3 or 4 and in fairness my parents should have probably known better. Didn't put me off poodles, I don't judge them based on my experiences. Every dog is different.

There isn't a single person who has experienced snappy, yappy, bad behaviour from MY dogs or from lots of small dogs I know.

They are generalising and stereotyping and its just as bad to do it about small dogs as it is to do it about Staffies. I'm baffled that people can't see its exactly the same and just as wrong.

Deed not breed! Certainly not size!

The only animals I've ever been bitten by were a gerbil and a goat. Ban them! :rotfl:

Oh god I forgot the time I had the kids gerbil hanging from my little finger, that HURT!!!!

Again though, probably my own fault as it hadn't been especially socialised so I couldn't really expect it to be happy I was trying to hold it. :p

Never been bitten by a goat, though I do remember a childhood friend being incredibly traumatised after a horse sneezed on him. Oh how I laughed as horse snot dripped from his chin :D

I was bitten on the face by a GSD when I was about 7 - I was running round with him in the owners garden, I should imagine he got excited and it was a nip rather than aggression. Never put me off dogs though :) And just recently I put my hand out to stroke a little westie in a basket on the front of a bike as I was talking to the owner and blimey he went berserk! She said he is very protective of his own space. I just rubbed my hand a bit and that was it, but you can imagine what a hoo ha if a kiddie had touched him and got a snap on the face.

I have two terriers now (dogs tend to get smaller as you get older ) They are lovely people friendly dogs but when someone knocks on the door they sound like the hounds of baskerville and I open the door every day to nervous looking delivery people - then they see the dogs and end up cuddling and kissing them.

Dogs are all different, its wise to be wary until we know them personally - but aint they lovely :)

The majority? Not in my experience, I walk my little dogs every day and every day we meet lots of perfectly friendly, happy, well behaved small dogs.

Even if it were the case why is it ok to make these incredibly nasty generalisations about small dogs and tar all their owners with the same brush when we've spent something like 10 pages all agreeing that its wrong to do so about Staffies and their owners?!!!

This makes me so angry.

Why angry? It's my experience that small dogs cause more trouble than larger ones when I walk mine. I'll be more specific...Westies (JRTs less so)!!

This may well be down to the owners not doing their job properly as you say but it doesn't alter the fact that I can't walk my 2 within 50 yds of a Westie without it barking, snarling & jumping at it's lead!

I'm sorry if this makes you angry, it certainly wasn't an attack on you in any way :)

You're making a negative generalisation about a group I am a member of, why the surprise that I'm bothered by it?

Why is it wrong to say all Staffies are aggressive but its ok to say that all Westies are?

I haven't commented on Staffies & I haven't said all Westies are aggressive, have I?

What I have said is that every Westie I have the misfortune to meet is snappy & noisy... I'm sure there are some marvellous Westies, just not where I am!

Ah, I thought I'd seen you comment in defence of the poor OP's Staff pup.

Look, generalisations, stereotypes, prejudice are always bad.

You've now changed your tune though from "the majority of small breed owners failing in their duties." to saying you've met some snappy Westies.

No point pursuing this further but I can't help but be depressed at the numbers of people who look at my little poodle and the OP's Staffie and make all sorts of unfair judgements about them just because of the way they look. :(
