Thank goodness the judge had some sense, but hopefully he's thrown the book at the owners!
  • Hi, I am another voter on the "don't listen to the negative comments!" I have two dogs, both rescued and both staffy crosses. One looks like a whippet but with a slightly wider head, not as wide as a staffy but she still makes people stand back. The other is a GSD crossed with a staffy and she looks like scrappy do :rotfl:Both dogs got all sorts of comments when I first rescued them but not so much now. Some people do cross over when they see me coming and I prefer that - I hate it when people let their dogs run over to mine or kids run over. However the worst that my dogs would do is try to give you a good old snog !

They are gentle, loving, funny and the best pets in the entire world and so will yours be. My theory is that its all in the upbringing, good training and a good owner generally equals good well adjusted dog - no matter what the breed.

Good luck, hope the pup is settling in well.

I got bit by a dog - this MASSIVE bull mastiff cros that hadn't been socialised with anyone.

I grew up with.....(at different times, one after the other) a lab/GSD cross, a Sheltie/Collie cross (she mouthed to 'herd' you and chased some kid who let her out the garden round the slide herding him too), a GSD (soppy as all out, my niece and her used to fall asleep together) and now a Patterdale. All of them have worn haltis when we could get them and people thought they were dangerous....but the only dog I've had try it on with me since having my ear bit....A Yorkie.

I would love a Staffie, mainly as they are so badly treated by others. But I love love love dogs, nd would want to give it a new start somewhere it can be a dog but have manners.

I do it all because I'm scared.
  • While I do sympathise, and I'm sure she will be a nice dog. I just would never want a dog of that breed near my dogs or kids(if I had them).

    Their just too powerful.
  • This reminds me of when ours was a pup and we used to walk him along the path next to the golf course. When he'd find a golf ball he'd take great pleasure in peeling them, on more than one occasion we had to run off quick as golfers were looking for their balls :D

He's lost a few teeth now due to his age

Golf balls actually contain a type of acid that destroys teeth, that is more than likely the cause of your dogs eventual tooth loss.

Being born and raised in Staffordshire I was (and still am) surrounded by Staffy's. Gorgeous dogs who make wonderful pets when trained correctly. Can't say as I have ever met one who wasn't as soft as a brush

Typically today, in the Mail (usual picture of devil dog used), staffy said to have bitten a kiddie on the face. Read on ..............the dog had been taken out by what sounds like half wit owners (very common that), got bitten by another dog ??? and then as it was a hot day and the dog was panting, the owner's uncle shoved a can ful of lager down the dogs throat. (Oh, I bet they roared with laughter when he did that and the dog wobbled about the garden). The kid then leans over the fence and "touches" the dog on the head and the dog bites. THANK GOD, sensible court and sensible dog behaviourist who said the dog was soft as butter (he actually says, he cant have the owner put down, but he can save the dogs life) and the court did not put a death sentence on the poor dog. Sadly, it does not seem to say the dog has been taken away from the people who caused this in the first place.

Its always the same old scenario, be it, rotties, staffies or any other "devil dog" - the owners are low lifes who cause the problem, not the dogs. But, people will just read the headline and see the snarling library photo of the staffie and the OP will be told all about it at work today.

Many many dog breeds are 'powerful', pretty much anything more 'powerful' than a toothless chihuahua would win in a child vs dog situation.

His teeth broke, through his favourite past time of chewing :o
