had a flyer through the post saying that we could get upto 24mb connection from talk talk and that they were new to the area.
am i right in thinking they will just use the BT equipment so ill only get exactly the same speed as i get now?
is there actually anywhere i can check that on the talktalk sit without getting a phonecall from sales?

HI JCderby,
It doesnt mean we will use the same equipment and you will get the same speed.
If we have our own equipment in the exchange then the service will be supplied in a different manner to your current BT services.
The Avaialbility checker on the TT website as stated will result in contact from the sales team regarding your enquiry. The availability checker will however give you an anticipated speed. You can however check on a number of third party sites for the presence of TalkTalk LLU at your exchange.

In case you werent aware, 2Mb counts as an
The main limitation on line speed is how far you are from the exchange, and whether youve been upgraded to fibre from copper. If you have been upgraded, or if not, its likely BT will be able to supply you as fast a speed as talktalk.upto 24mb connection from talk talkillegitimi non carborundum0 -
Use the exchange mapping facility on samknows to get an idea of likely speeds. No free lunch, and no free laptop

hi jcderby,
There area number of places that detail the technical informaiotn as to why speed vary from place to place.
If you search the terms "broadband attentuation" and "broadband signal to noise ratio" you will find many articles which cover the more technical aspects.
In general short terms the more noise on the line the lower the speed. The longer a line the slower speed and the lesser quality of the line (usually measured by higher attenuation figures) the lower the speed. In each case the converse is also true (i.e less noise, shorter line and lower attentuation equate faster speeds).
As each fo these factors can vary greatly from property to property these are the main reasons for fluctuations in speed. Also the chipset on the router and iternal wiring can be a factor but the above is considering that the comparison is made via the test socket using the same equipment.

I think you need to SERIOUSLY think about going to TT. They are hardly out of the news for bad customer service!!!
Go to Sam Knows and see who else is @ your exchange.
