Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 19th October. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone - still dark outside - and wasn't it cold yesterday? Felt very pleased with myself as managed to pick up two birthday cakes for DS2s birthday in November at reduced prices. I'd normally make myself, but this year I just have too much going on. So happy to say I've got a cake for his party and then one I'll cut in half for beavers - as he'll make his beaver promise that night!!

Spent all of yesterday cleaning and tidying up the house - done most of it except for our bedroom (why is that always the last thing?!) - so will tackle that today. Parents evening tonight so will be interesting to find out what the blighters have been doing! Dinner will be sausage casserole from the freezer with mash I think. something that I can quickly heat up.

Have been drowning under wet bedlinen thanks to the boys for the last few days - put one back into nappies and will be reducing the drinks to both of them. GRRRRRR.

Hugs to those in need - sorry haven't read the thread. Anyone got any snow yet? xxxxx:cool:

Happy days Shalva x

The windscreen was thick with ice this morning & took a while to scrape.
I feel happier now the roof has been sorted, especially since it is so wintery out.
Work is getting on my nerves at the moment, well 2 particular workmates are, one of them supports a fairly obscure charity & keeps pressing us for money/help/donations, I don't mind making nominal contributions but I'm finding her constant demands wearisome. So far I have been polite, firm, but polite, I'm now losing patience & I can see strong words being exchanged as I shall tell her straight than my family & the charities I support are more important to me than her pet prodject. Then she will cry & report me to her line manager for being cruel & her line manager will probably tell her to grow up & me back off.
Another colleague is having family problems & spends the few hours she is at work snivelling into her hanky. Yes I know I'm being a b***h, but it's no more serious than lots of people are dealing with, her problem is that this is the first hiccup she's ever had to deal with & she's always been so smug about never having problems as they are 'just so perfect' it's like the rest of us have had berevements & illnesses through our own making, grrr.
    Right, rant over.
Last night's fish pie was yummy, chilli sausages & mash for tea tonight.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Cold here today, was a struggle to get out of a warm bed. I think there is a light frost out there today.
I know what you mean about the latter friend hardup hester. I have one of those too. Most of the time i let it go over my head but sometimes it really wears me down.
Esmf73, its great that you got your ds cake sorted.
Tea tonight is hm chicken (left over and frozen from Sunday) and vegetable pie with veg.
Hope you all have a lovely day and hugs to those who need them.

    Morning all,

Cold here this morning, not sure if there is a frost of not have not been out yet, since moving here my car gets parked in the carport, and OH's behind it, I have not had to scrape a frost off since, its luxury just getting in and off.

Work today, hope the heating is on in the office, its freezing otherwise. Chicken fried rice for tea, with corgettes from my garden, cant believe I'm still picking them, but I suspect these will be the last.

Need to hoover through tonight and put a wash on, which will go on the airer, with no heating on, and no TD I am finding it harder to get it all dry.

Marie, hope you are feeling better.

    Hugs to Topsy xx

    Morning all,

It is really cold and dark here at the moment, I will have to put a coat on to peg the washing out!

Hester, sometimes I feel like having a real go at some people from work, too many people are too wrapped up in their own little worlds to think of anyone else.

I have been given the afternoon off today as it is DS's parent s afternoon at school. It only lasts from 2 till 5, I don't understand why they don't do proper parents evenings like every other secondary school. At the school I work at our parents evenings are from 4.30 till 7 and most parents can get there during that time.

Tea tonight is chilli (just like the weather!) as we will be eating in shifts. DS has ju jitsu and OH has a spin class.

We are all creeping round this morning as OH has a day off and he will be like a bear with a sore head if anyone wakes him up!

DD2 came home from school yesterday grinning all over her face, She has been made captain of the school netball team!:D

    Hugs to all in need.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)
  • Morning all, before and after :)

Yesterday was a successful day - the cleaner cleaned and I visited my parents, did a pet-sitting job and got some food supplies put tidily away. Now I know I have enough staples to do me for a few weeks (with supplementary fresh things added) I'm in nesting mode. I think the snow is coming and it'll be so good to be able to stay at home when it does.

Plan for today is a quiet day as I was in bed and asleep before 9pm last night and am still rather tired this morning. I do need to run a couple of errands but think they can wait until tomorrow. Mind you, I may get itchy feet after breakfast and want to go out. Got to pet-sit later this afternoon but the rest of the day is ear-marked for knitting and reading.

Hope everyone else has a pleasant day :)

    Ooohhh it's chilly!

OH has a cold, bless him, he sounds terrible, but, being self employed he won't/can't take time off as we don't know how long the work will be around for. (quite glad i'm going to my dads this weekend, will stay away from the lurgy!)

Frost on the flat roof this morning, and taking pup around the park was nippy!

Chilli con Carne for dinner tonight, friend has it for lunch yesterday and now i really fancy some!

    Have a lovely day all

    Morning everyone

Cloudy and chilly here this morning. DH up and off to work early but not stupid early, so I got a nice cuppa in bed before he left!

Work was quiet to start with yesterday and then in the afternoon went mad, people seemed to be multiplying before our eyes, but eventually we got everyone sorted or booked for appointments at another time.

Dinner last night was sausage sandwiches for the boys, fry-up for DH, and mushroom omlette and salad for me. DS1 went to Rugby practice last night so I was taxi. Dinner tonight will be beef stew and dumplings, mash and veg - good winter warming food, as it felt very wintery when I put the washing on the line half hour ago!! Have a training session this morning and have some time owed to take after so will be leaving work a bit early - start my days off then and only working Monday then off to the following Monday - so that will be nice break, although I have loads to do in that time!!

Have a great day everyone, hugs to those that need/want them, take care.

Morning folks, late in getting up today as off work on a days holiday. Not sure what I will do , but have the man coming to fix the washing machine, first time I havent called out Hotpoint so I am hoping I am not making a mistake, but Hotpoints charges are astronomical I thought I would give the local chap a try.
Its a gorgeous morning here, sun is out, sky is blue with wisps of cloud but it is mighty cold, and thankfully the wind has died down.
Lunch Will be HM Soup from the freezer and tea will be whatever I Can find when I am in there!

better go and have another cuppy before DGS wakens - he must be snug as he is usually up and running about by now, must be the flanelette sheets!!
    Every days a School day!
