:j Well done, Mrs Chip! I have been following the saga with bated breath and am so pleased they got it installed. What a bunch of heroes. :j
PiC I'm a cat lover so never blush to tell moggie tales. I am so deeply sad that when I ring the folks I make them hold the phone to the cat so that I can hear her purr.Tragic, or what?:o Good on ya for being a cat fosterer.
My extended family have a decades-long association with an independant cat rescue charity in a small market town and the last several cats were rescues from them. All daft as brushes. Cats come into the parental household a bit nervy and jumpy and quickly suss that they are the rulers of the roost and control the heartstrings and purse-strings with paws of steel. And charm.;)
They most recently went to the sanctuary in 2004 after we'd sadly lost the previous rescue cat to cancer. We felt a bit bad (he was 3 when we took him on and we'd had him 9 years) as if we'd somehow been slack but it was oral cancer and there was no option but to put him to sleep.
Anyway, we'd decided ahead of time we'd like a tabby as we'd never had one and came away with 2 grey sisters, one Siamese-y type and one who looks rather like a Norwegian Forest Cat; very very outdoorsy. Except they're Heinz not pedigree. Both are very affectionate but the Siamese-y type was a bit spiteful at first; don't think they were properly socialised. Their people did a flit and left 2 very young females with 6 kittens (may they rot in hell). The Siamese-y type came around with love and care and was last seen upside-down in my mother's arms, looking up at her dewily whilst having her throat rubbed.:rotfl:
Yesterday was the Monday From Hell with a major software outage for hours (not the New Fingy but something more critical) and none of us could see what we needed to see to do our jobs. Arrggghhhh!
Came out of the t'office feeling like I'd been run over and managed not to hit the shops for a choccie-fix. Went to the Magic Greengrocer instead and came away (for a £1) with 4 red peppers, a bag of mushrooms and a honeydew melon.
Love those people. Did a big pasta-ish thingy with 2 cans tomatoes and 1 can of sweetcorn as well as the fresh veg and ate half last night and will have the rest tonight.
 The tomato stash is shrinking and I'm feeling a little...y'know...
vulnerable.
Took a cuppa with SuperGran but there was no neighbourhood gossip other than I knew about before I left, then hung out at a mate's after supper for a couple of hours. Anything to avoid the housework.
OK, drivelling done, gonna have another cuppa whilst I bring my brain up to operational speed.
Have a good one, peeps, love GQ x

I have a chicken in the slow cooker - looks most peculiar, if i didn't know that it doesn't change colour i could swear it was on a sunbed
Just had leftover bread and butter pud for brekkie - kids were disgusted that i ate it straight out of the tupperware, well it saves washing a bowl
It is always me who finishes everything - toothpaste others don't like, shampoo etc (our ensuite is a veritable graveyard for nearly empty shampoo, shower gel and conditioner bottles as DD gets nearly to the end and starts a new one - we struggle to keep up), leftovers that others weren't keen on. I just can't chuck usable stuff away.
I have to go to work and talk to students, well actually i have to listen to them moan about the mark i gave their work - my job as a lecturer would be so much easier without students :rotfl:

 Wow! Is that how much it costs? I'm so glad I'm the one in charge of our finances and not DH because he would have signed us up for that long ago! He's constantly moaning about having to use the bus for work but it works out cheaper than him taking the car every day. He's now constantly going on about buying another car for him to use - a 1000cc one - but we can barely afford to keep one on the road never mind two.0 -

Yeah that's me too. In the kitchen I am The Human Dustbin! (Mind you the dogs get a bit of a look in too) But I appear to be the only person in the house capable of squeezing the last out of a tube of toothpaste, or checking for the bottle with the last few dregs in, and using them up!
Now DD has gone back to Uni it's a lot better...I'm not getting a new bottle out til the old one has gone. She knows where my stash is and helps herself...the others can't find anything if it's under their noses!

KateI think this is a universal situation. I've had pals who are Mums to teen DDs grump good-naturedly that they have to upend 3-4 bottles of shampoo to get enough to wash their own hair whilst the DD is off on the new bottle and quite oblivious to thrift.
Their own DDs if (they have them) will be serving them likewise a few years time then the Mums can smile wryly.........:rotfl:

Justamum - It's a shocker isn't it when you look at its annual cost? It's less than that for the basic package but I had the Sports channels as well - but nothing else, no + or HD or 3D. I imagine some folk will be paying upwards of £1200 a year. If I could have kept just the sport for a reasonable price I would have, but it was not possible. Top Up TV let you buy just the sport but again it's too pricey really, so freesat it is.
The yellow ball is around this morning so after chores I might put my lunch into my rucksack and take pup to the park for a picnic. Anything to avoid doing paperwork. Then a mooch round Mr T with my vouchers - haven't got many so may save them instead.

Yep - another one here - I finish food & toiletries up all the time - lunch is 9/10 leftovers/ something which needs using up before it goes off - sometimes I want to rebel and open a new loaf before finishing the heel of the old one and open the new jam that I prefer instead of the so-so blackcurrant one on the go - trouble is, everyone prefers the plum, so the blackcurrant would end up living in teh fridge forever - at least this way it is (very) gradually being used up!!:D:DI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Mrs chip- congratulations on your new tank.
Have been laid up for a week. Having visited the doctor on Friday - its a virus. Fluids and rest. To today - its pneumonia!! Have some pills. So no money saving going on as oh really has no idea at all. There have been any number of takeaways and no proper shopping. Dad did some shopping on Friday for me, he spent almost fifty pounds for less than twenty pounds of stuff if I had been shopping.0 -
kidcat - oh my goodness! Pneumonia! You have my heartfelt sympathy. Please don't compromise your health in a bid to keep the OS/MS going. Having had it myself I'm afraid to say that it will take quite a time to fully recover, even though the worst should pass fairly soon. We were staying with friends in Canada who at the time had 3 teenage daughters. My friend (girl's mum) was lamenting about the fact that they only used 75% of bottles of shampoo etc and she couldn't get them to do anything about it. After realising they were fascinated with my shampoos, shower gels etc because they were British (and they thought a bit more exotic) we hatched a plan. We decanted my stuff into old clean bottles and refilled my empties with the remains of all the girl's leftovers. We cleared 6 shampoo bottles, 4 conditioners and 3 shower gels as well as a body moisturiser. We did top them up a bit with some of mine just to make it more realistic.
I then handed them over just before we left saying I'd brought double everything and wondered if they would like them as I didn't want to carry them all the way home again. They were thrilled at getting some foreign stuff!
I was highly amused when my friend emailed to say that not only had the girls used the toiletries but they had squabbled over who got the last drop. Apparently they claimed the "British" shampoo to have beeen soooo superior to the Canadian stuff. Heather and I have laughed over this many times since and the girls are none the wiser.:) I guess she may tell them once they've all moved out!
Kidcat -I totally forgot my manners, meant to say, please take it easy and rest as much as you can.0
