  • Good morning ladies

There were loads of traffic accidents last night in and around our city due to the fog so I hope no one was badly injured.

It does amaze me how people don't slow down even though they are driving through pea soup :( At one point one of the main arteries into the city was close so I bet there are a lot of unhappy people who took hours to get home. Note to self I must make sure supplies are stocked up in the car.

Mummy cat has now lost her fifth collar in two weeks  I think she is trying to find herself a new home as her babies are now old enough to be doing er ed in :rotfl::rotfl:

The house is oh so quiet at the moment but I can hear alarms going off so let the chaos ensue :D

    :D:o:D Sorry, couldn't resist........

Just dropped an egg carton...well went to put it on the counter and didn't put in far enough on and the eggs were in the back of the carton, the thing somesaulted and landed ker-splat on the floor.

So, instead of one egg and 2 rashers, I ended up with a 4-egg omelette as all 4 had concussion fractures due to landing on their noggins whilst in the carton. 4 eggs is 2 eggs too many but I didn't want to waste them.

Just hope that this isn't an omen for how the rest of the day will pan out.........:rotfl:

Life continues under louring grey skies and I am having to go to w*rk again today. Is there no end to it?

I shall be visiting the parental units back in the homestead for the weekend and have given them enough warning to get the locks changed, re-flood the moat and ready the arbelasts and the boiling oil. If none of those things happen, I shall assume that I will be welcome.:D

The fatted calf was slaughtered and there will be.....waitforit.....roast beef and all the trimmings tonight. My favourite meal. Yayyyyyy! Something which I didn't have to plan for, shop for, cook etc although I will do the dishes.

Mrs Chip, fingers crossed for the oil tank fitting thru the house. Keep is posted on developments. Hey, could that charming Prince William pop over from Anglesea with his whirliebird and winchman and lower one in, if necessary?

((hugs to all)) and will try and nip onto t'internet over the weekend but might have to catch up on Monday.

I dont have a TV or a TV licence. I only ever watch stuff on iplayer or 4od etc. It is strangely liberating not having your life planned around a box in the corner of the room. I decided to get rid when I bought the cottage as the £13 a month would cover my insurance and would be worth while. The interesting thing is you only watch things that interest you rather than putting it on for the sake of it. I certainly havent missed out but find it's other people who can't deal with it - not least my mother!!! She keeps offering to pay for a TV and the licence for a year. I just dont want one now I have got used to it. I tend to put the radio on or move the lappy into the kitchen when I am cooking.

Prepare for agro from the TV licencing people though. They are still threatening me with court even though I havent ever had a TV here. I just bin all the letters and now know exactly what they are allowed to do and what they most definitely are not allowed to do. You can also withdraw implied access to your house if they really kick off. I refuse to deal with them.

The new sofa has arrived but the old one has yet to be taken away so things are a little tight here at Chez Red at the moment!!!

You are allowed to tell the TV Licence people they are not allowed into your home. There is no law that says they must enter your premises.

My friend had a brilliant 2 hour conversation with one she allowed into her home. She showed him the TV set which was broken, no aerial plugged into it and then lectured him for 2 hours on the law regarding TV licence and how they don't understand it properly and harass and hound the wrong people. At the end of the 2 hours he was exhausted and agreed with everything she said :T

They only need to stand outside your house with a monitoring device to see if you are receiving transmission signals from an aerial to prove you are watching tv without a licence. And you are allowed to watch on demand and follow up tv without a tv licence, as they are NOT CURRENTLY BEING BROADCAST OVER AIRWAVES programmes! It is if you watch currently being broadcast programs you have to have a tv licence. nothing stopping you watching dvds on your tv.

BIB - I'm sure I read somewhere that these monitoring devices are all a myth to scare people. They go purely on a database of every address in the country, and just target those addresses which don't have licences. That's all they need. The assumption is that everybody has a tv these days.

My DD2 wanted to watch Strictly up in her room on her laptop and found it was being broadcast live on Iplayer. It flashed up a message first asking 'do you have a current TV licence?' That could be a problem in future because they could argue that you have the facility to watch live TV in real time even if you don't have a TV
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

    Watching TV on the internet
You need to be covered by a licence if you watch TV online at the same time as it's being broadcast on conventional TV in the UK or the Channel Islands.
Video recorders and digital recorders like Sky+
You need a licence if you record TV as it's broadcast, whether that's on a conventional video recorder or digital box.
    Mobile phones
A licence covers you to watch TV as it's broadcast on a mobile phone, whether you're at home or out and about

Exception: If you only watch catch-up services online, then you don’t need a licence. For example, you don’t need one to use BBC iPlayer, or ITV player, to catch up on programmes after they have been shown on TV.

How we can detect if you’re correctly licensed
National database We have a database of almost 30 million licensed and unlicensed addresses. This tells us if your address has a TV Licence.

    Enforcement officers
All our enforcement officers have access to this database. This means they can check if you have a valid licence or not.
If you inform us that you do not watch television, enforcement officers may still visit you to confirm this.

Hand-held detection devices Enforcement officers may use a hand-held detection device to measure both the direction and the strength of a TV signal. This makes it easy for us to locate TV receiving equipment in even the hardest-to-reach places.

Detector vans We also have a fleet of detector vans that can detect the use of TV receiving equipment at specifically targeted addresses within 20 seconds.

do you remember the TV licensing Detector vans ads they used to show?

yes, but then they have to prove you have been watching live tv as it was broadcast.
  • If it weren't for the sport that my OH watches, we wouldn't bother with a TV either. There are very few programmes that interest either of us (other than his sport;)) and we could quite easily manage with just I-player.

My DD doesn't have a TV and the DGSs don't miss out at all. They watch plenty of stuff on catch-up if/when they want to. She originally did it as money was tight and she couldn't afford a license but now it is just a way of life for them. You are right though Maryb - I thinks it's only a matter of time before the b*ggers start finding a way to get the money out of you.

We have the 2 older DGSs coming for the weekend so lots of walks in the woods planned. It's a cunning plan on my part - I love this time of year with all the leaves to kick through and the fresh air helps them sleep well :):). We might take them swimming too - that will tire them out.:j:j

I think we'll have jacket potatoes with beans and cheese for tea, good and filling for them (and I can use up the last bits of cheese in the fridge).

Have a good OS money saving day all.
