rising I've had those vac bags from Poundland and so has Mum. We both found them carp; they leak and de-vac themselves. Perhaps we just got a bad batch because they were bought at the same time from the same store.
I got mine from Poundland and they've been ok. The only problem I had was that I had to sit on the duvet in the bag whilst hubby got the zip bit lined up straight so he could do it up! :rotfl:0 -
What a horrible day out there. Not only grey and wet, now the wind is whipping itself up into a frenzy. The couple of dry days we had there over the weekend have allowed the farmers back in the fields to get the last of the tatties out - and now the roads are death traps with the mud on them. Took my life in my hands out dog walking the morning
Ok, so Im feeling ratty and sick and just downright sorry for myself. I dont do colds and this is a horror.Im coughing and blowing so much theres blood everywhere and I hurt and Im sure its too early to start on the hot toddies:beer:
Thankyou all for your kind words regarding MIL. Hubby texted last night to say since she was on the drip she appears brighter so fingers crossed that will continue. I would love to go up and see her as she does like a bit of a giggle and she thinks Im as mad as a hatter as I always have some story or other to tell her but I cant risk passing this stonker on to anyone whos so frail.
Aisling, the best Vac bags I ever got were from QVC. Ive had them from all over since, pound shops, JML, Dunelm etc with varying degrees of success. Looking here atm the QVC ones are really the only ones that haven't inflated to some extent.
Splodger seedswopper and GreyQueen How lucky you both are to have allotments. I have a small veggie patch here in the garden but tbh I dont have a clue about what I should be doing. Its about 12x12 and this past summer we had carrots ( still a lot there) parsnips , onions and broad beans in there. Now other then the few carrots left its kind of turning into a nettle bed. Should I be doing something? Is there anything I can plant over the winter? Im on the North coast of Ireland so very wet, very windy - and usually very snowy from Dec - to march. Now Im not working I think I should be doing more in the way of growing food
MrsChip - dont be too surprised if a crane is not required. DH often has to hire them to drop building materials into peoples back gardens when theres no other access. Pain in the butt getting the road closed or parking bays suspended and usually organised for crack of dawn so as not to be too disruptive to traffic ( he works in London though)
Rising, I have the sky box for the sitting room - just need the digi box for the bedrooms. Like you we have dire signals, indeed we tend to pick up more of a signal from Eire then here
Gigervamp Your husband has impeccable taste :)Reminds me of here, getting a side of chips on your plate to go with the fish and chips you ordered :rotfl:
Right - pile of washing to get done and carpets to hoover. I think thats about all Im fit to do today. I dont think Ill be cooking either after all. Toast is all I seem to want when my throat is sore and theres a pile of butter - yummy0 -
Hey, everyone - I've found the yellow ball! :j It's so warm outside that I had to take my coat off while I was out on my lunch break.
I went out to try and get the press-stud fastening on my leather coat fixed, in an OS, make-do-and-mend spirit, but the shop can only do it if I can get the manufacturer to send me some replacement press-studs: as the coat was made in the far east I think the chances of that are very slim indeed.Hey ho, at least I tried.
I definitely need to sort out my freezer, BTW: I've been looking forward all morning to the slice of cheese and bacon quiche I'd defrosted for lunch, and was mildly disappointed to unwrap it and find it was actually spinach and feta pie. It was still nice, of course, just not what I'd intended.
suki - poor you - that sounds like a really nasty bug you've got there. I hope it goes away very soon.Back after a very long break!0 -
The 'ospital now has 3 vials of my O Positive and I think I might just have to have some premium dark chocolate from L!dl this afternoon. Purely for medicinal purposes, y'unnerstand, to bring up my iron levels. Wouldn't eat it just for the pleasure........:rotfl:
Suki most of the veggies which will stand winter weather at these latitudes will have to have been in already and somewhat grown- leeks, various cabbage-y things, kale (sorry Mardatha).
If you get on it right away you could sow broad beans (Aquadulce variety) and they'll grow to about 3 inches tall then stay dormant until the warmer lighter days. I have seen them with little hats of snow in winter and it doesn't seem to do them harm.
From my RL, I find broad beans to be very much a polarising vegetable; people either love 'em or loathe 'em so maybe this isn't something you'd want to try at home.
For next summer, have you thought about training runner beans up strings or sticks? They're very space-efficient. And yo can save a packet on shop-prices by growing lettuces, assuming this is something you eat.
:D:eek: Something strange is happening outside!!!!!!!!!!!! It's, It's... trying to get out sunny. A few feeble sunbeams; quiet in the back, we don't want to frighten them away, this is the most solar radiation I've seen in 10 days!
OMG I'm going to the lottie. Even if I just drop the compostables and say hi to the weeds, it beats being in the t'office.
Laters!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

re the vac bags:
dh and I used the pricier ones to pack the car when we moved house to Italy...one popped behing the drivers seat as we were driving, and as the car was stuffed full I felt the pressure against my back like a childpushing hard with its feet....it was terrible.
They have all failed on us eventually, and I personally no longer bother with them.
Is anyone else finding the weather messing with meal plans and food wants? I found myself having a breakfast of salad with warmed up left over cod yesterday, as I wanted a ''proper'' meal but not porridge.0 -
Oh Oh Oh ... after a damp and drizzly morning here in Worcs. The yellow ball is up there and shining through the windows (rushes round making sure no rads are on).
Went to Mr T's this morning and came home totally stressed but bargainfilled. Had to wait 10 mins at Customer Services (what a misnomer THAT is) to exchange ClubCard vouchers for double in clothing dept. and they have a clothing sale on! Got some pjs, jumper and cardigans for Chrimbo pressies...and all for £6 in real money, £10 in vouchers. Then had to wait another 10 mins at checkout, coz only half of them were open! Even the cashier said what a shambles it was and how confusing these Clubcard exchanges are for both staff and customers.
Still.....needs must.Normal people worry me.0 -

Me too! :T Paperwork abandoned and off out soon for a walk with pup. To be followed by a spot of veggie gardening and some more apple picking. What a difference a ball makes :rotfl:"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
It's me, I have the yellow ball
It has even made my solar powered rainbow maker work, so the landing is a beautiful myriad of rainbows
*smug* No *slap* gerrof, you can't have it!

Ooooooh I feel your pain, the other night DH and I braved the big Mr Ts and bought some clothes and a small electrical appliance (xmas gifts) after lining up at the checkouts we were then told to go to customer services who moaned about only finding out the offer was starting by her TV at home. The then had to do each different department separately and they also had to check if sale items were includedGood hour of my life lost but have a boot full of gifts.
Busy baking today as it is dark and gloomy here and I want to put my new to me kenwood through its paces. I did get a spare glass bowl from the CS for a quid and they are £25 ish on Eb*y :j DH thinks I am bonkers getting excited over a bowl :rotfl::rotfl:

Now recovered from my supermarket trip, but only just. Still, nice jumpers and cardis for £5 PLUS doubling up clubcard points, you have to make sacrifices, don't you?
The yellow ball thingy lasted all of ...ooooh...three minutes, think it must have been a warm coloured UFO.
Off to do the ironing, can't think up any more excuses like "it'll only get creased again when I wear it" and "no-one will see a manky pair of pj's when I'm in bed" or "he's wearing a jumper over that so..."
Anyway, ironing keeps me warm.Normal people worry me.0
