What evidence do you have to back up this belief

I've used a mobile phone and also 2 way radio whilst driving. I've done 1.8 million miles accident free. That is the equivalent to someone who passes their test at age 17 and drives 12,000 miles a year accident free until they are 167 years old. In short, I've driven roughly the equivalent mileage of two lifetimes of an average motorist both points and accident free.

And as you don't see carnage on every road all the time, I can only assume I am correct.

And how many drivers have killed someone whilst using a mobile phone?

3 months after i came to the land of the green, i bought a motorbike and paid 1700 for third part only...(bike cost = 400.00;)
first trip= london to oxford city, and i remember some strange thing flashed me;)..i knew it flashed me as it came to my mirrors.

leter came from police, i sent my albanian licence back,,in the end they got 60 quid from me and that was it..
    i thought i got of lightly..i was wrong !
3 months latter, i passed the motorbike uk test , first time, with a warm ''well done'' from the examiner and was ''flying'' from chingford hill ,down to walthamstow .
licence arrived very shortly and i hadnt started celebrating yet, when 3-4 days latter i get a letter from dvla asking me to send the licence back!!!
with my then pathetic english i tried''to defend my right to have my licence'' but the welsh girl had enough and told me of,loudly saying ''SEND -YOUR- LICENCE- BACK -asap ''

STRANGELY , it came back very quick and i was pleased with it :rotfl:... it took me 2 years to read well and .... realise , the welsh girl had endorsed 3 points from the oxford trip!!
that was 1999..i dont know how s the law now

28 killed last year according to RoSPA where the driver was using a mobile phone however it doesn't say that that was the primary cause.

It could turn out that like speeding on rural roads, when the facts actually come to light the number where it was directly attributable to the mobile phone will be very low. In the case of speeding, it turned out that only 4% were as a direct result of exceeding the speed limit.
  • Im surprised Hammyman has answered you to be honest. Im still waiting for his answer to my question the other day. That was to do with his superior road knowledge too.

I guess i wont ever find out though.

So in the last 10 years, probably 280 plus people dead sacrificed to the alter of the mobile phone - and undoubtedly more as for part of that 10 years it was legal to use them.

I do agree with most of what you say about speeding, but nothing about what you say on using mobiles whilst driving. It is as dangerous as drink driving, and should have the same penalties.

We need a Government that has the ba**s to make it so.

I sort of agree; I find it incredible that anyone nowadays would consider driving with one arm holding an object to their head. This isn't America, the land of straight roads and automatic cars - we actually have to drive our cars.

But I think some perspective is required. Red traffic light, picking up your phone to check a text. Technically the same offence, but does it really deserve a minimum 1 year ban and a criminal record, the same as drink driving yields? I'm not convinced myself.

You may have a point with your example of checking a text whilst at red traffic lights, but by using the same analogy, a drunk driver isn't dangerous when he too is standing at red traffic lights - or is he?

The drunk driver will still be drunk when he drives away from those lights. The suggestion is that the mobile phone user is ONLY checking his phone while at the lights, and will put it down before moving off. So there is no comparison.

I've ridden a motorcycle after taking magic mushrooms. No one died. I can only assume using the road after taking drugs is perfectly safe.
Is it your lorry that keeps wandering onto the hard shoulder ?
