You should be banned for putting the lives of other road users at risk. Here's hoping!

How do you know it does? Some people can drive OK whilst on a mobile phone, others can't. Your statement is as asinine as the govt one that exceeding the speed limit kills. I know plenty of roads where it doesn't and plenty of roads where if you did the speed limit, you'd be killed at the first bend.

    Deviating from the topic, but:

Tell that to the relatives of those killed by people using their mobile phones, like the scum who killed a family whilst texting.

If you seriously believe people can drive safely whilst using a handheld mobile phone, then I sincerely hope you and YOUR family never have cause to remember your stupidity with regret.

What evidence do you have to back up this belief

You have to apply for a provisional licence and pass both the theory and practical test. Note that you cannot drive alone whilst you hold a provisional licence you must always be accompanied by a fully licensed driver.

Holders of licences from all other countries (not EU or Designated Country) Have to obtain a provisional licence and pass the theory and practical test, but they do not need 'L' plates or need to be accompanied, and they may use motorways.

Only up to 12 months. The question was regarding 2.5 years. After 12 months visitors must stop driving. If they get a provisional before the end of 12 months they can still drive alone.

It doesn't apply to the OP, they have an EU licence.

Indeed. And could have been offered a FPN.

The evidence is that lots of people still do it, without incident. If no one could do it, then they'd all have accidents. But they don't, so it stands to reason that some people must be able to.

However, as some people can't, and the consequences are serious, then legislation was required.

They can drive for 12 months using their Australian licence, then they must stop driving. If they want to continue driving they must exchange the Australian licence for a GB one, which must be done within 5 years of becoming resident
