I really liked "The Wolves of Willoughby Chase" and "blackhearts in battersea". The Judy Blume books such as "Just as long as we're together" I read a few times, and I quite enjoyed a book called "the Tulip Touch", I'm sure I was 8 or 9 when I read these so hopefully your daughter would like them too x

I read the Babysitters club, and sweet valley high, A Christmas Carol is great to introduce Charles Dickens to children - its well known through films anyway, I got the St Clares boxset in Whsmith the other year for pennies, Malory Towers I loved, Try your local library too, Im now googling childrens books as I want to reread a load of them :D
The Ramona Quimby books where a giggle to read but they are being made into films now.
    Fudge -Super Fudge Ann somebody?

Think Goodnight Mr Tom, was read in school,
Oh gosh whats the book called where the children are evacuated and they stay with Hepzibah and the train track?
The Diary of Anne Frank i Loved but I was about 11 - which fits into year 6 - World War 2 scheme of work.
Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together

Carrie's War. Another one set around WW2 that I loved but doesn't seem as popular now is When hitler stole pink Rabbit by judith Kerr (who wrote the tiger that came to tea).

I loved Anne Franks Diary read it again a couple of years ago and as an adult takes on such a whole new meaning but like you I have it in my head I was about 10.

Thanks to this I am spoiled for choice, I think as part of her Christmas I am going to do a book hamper with some of your fab suggestions and include a dictionary and thesaurus to help her along.
