Argos 30day Guarantee Exemptions!!!!!!!!

I bought an MP3 Player from Argos and it will not charge. Rang Archos and they asked a few questions and sais it was faulty.I purchased this on 27th of September.
Argos refused to replace and pointed out that it had on the receipt Exempt from 30 day Guarantee as are Mobile Phones and other Electrical Items.
What am I supposed to do; throw it away?

Aren't you confusing a return with a repair? They're not obliged to offer you an automatic replacement, but they are obliged to offer a repair/replacement/refund under the normal 12m warranty-their choice.
It appears that the numpty you spoke to just thinks you want to return it because you don't now want it, not because it's faulty.
I presume that an MP3 player cannot be returned for hygiene reasons (because it has earphones).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

no take into an argos store with receipt as it is faulty then their 30 day guarantee means nothing

If there's a fault with the product...

    We've made it easier!
    • If you bring it back to us within 30 days with your proof of purchase, we'll give you a
      replacement or a refund.
    • If you've had the product for up to 1 year, we'll repair the product or, if that's not possible, give you a replacement or, if that's not possible, a refund.
    • Please note that all large kitchen appliances are excluded from our normal 30 day guarantee, but if your item develops a fault within 30 days, call us on 0845 640 0800 and one of our advisors will assist you with your problem. If faulty and if it cannot be repaired we will arrange a replacement free of charge or you can opt for a refund.

As it is such a short time since I bought the item, does not the Sale of Goods Act say it should be relaced?

No it does not-it's at the shop's discretion. But with a small electrical item like this that is almost certainly what they'll do anyway.

The 30 day guarantee was just for returning something if you don't like it, if it's broken they should replace it as it's less that 6 months old

They should replace it, or offer a repair.
I bought something last xmas which was exempt it broke in July I took it back and they replaced it no problem at all.
You need to go back and speak to someone who knows what they are doing.

Either you or they shop assistant misunderstands...

To protect your personal security, we are also unable to accept returns on some non-faulty imaging and recording products such as MP3 players and digital cameras.

If it is faulty, it is covered.

As already advised, they do not have to replace it. You will be offered a repair, replacement or a refund-the choice is theirs.
Speak to a manager who understands the difference between a return and a faulty item.
