There's some threads in the Cleaning section of the MEGA Index sticky at the top of the forum listing that you can find under sofas that give more tips - and I think there's one about cleaning leather hand bags somewhere there too.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Alternatively, pop round with an empty bottle for a quick squirt!0 -
I have had quite a few Leather suites over the years and have always used Boiled Linseed Oil on them. It didn't seem to do them any harm so I kept on using it. I applied it with a dry cloth, left it on for a bout 30 mins, (but you can leave it on longer as this will make the leather more supple), then wipe it off with another dry cloth. The bottle cost me about £4 for 500ml, you can get it from any Hardware, DIY Store, and you really only use a little at any one time. Its leaves your leather really supple and new looking. As for the suite getting faded in some areas, I discovered a few sites that sell colored polish, but they are expensive. Here are some of them LTT Leather Care. The Leather Care Co. Furniture Clinic. Hope this tip helps.0

My mother has a cream leather sofa, a cat... and 5 dogs...
She has one of those microfibre mitt things a small soft scrubbing brush.. and she uses a bucket of water with stardrops, washing liquid and disinfectant (not detol as it is not good for mog) and a big dose of elbow grease... twice a week
I have a very very dark brown suite, a house full of children, cats and rabbits and I give each child a baby wipe and a section to scrub. I do think keeping it out of the sun and in use makes a difference, it needs to be sat on reularly to keep it nice and supple. A tiny dot of baby oil is something rubbed through on a microfibre cloth... and I mean a tiny dot for the whole sofa.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

My leather corner suite is getting a bit old & tatty now, thanks to my dog who is also getting old & tatty. Last time I gave it a thorough clean I used black shoe polish and shoe shine brushes. Came up fantastic, got rid of the scuffs made by the dog/kids and did'nt mark any clothing afterwards.0

Hi, I am just after ideas for cleaning my leather sofa and my carpet.
I have a black leather sofa that I dust regularly but it does sometimes get marks on it and I wipe it down with a damp cloth but I have read the care instructions and it says not to wet the leather. I once got some leather wipes and although I like wipes for other things, these didn't work on the leather.
Also I have a light carpet and a cat who is sometimes sick on it and try as I may I can't get rid of the stains. I have bought some of that new Vanish powder stain remove stuff but its done nothing at all.
Any ideas appreciated. Thank you.0 -
Can you get hold of dubbin for the leather? Old fashioned, beeswax based, almost a "shoe polish" texture. Or look in the shoe care section of a fairly big supermarket and you'll usually find a leather balsam/cream to rub in. I tend to go natural rather than for silicone waxes. Keeps the leather smooth and supple.
For the carpet, I wish I knew (dog + fish = smelly vomit....). Don't bother with dyson's posh version of shake'n'vac, I can tell you that much! You might be best off trying a rug doctor type treatment - then at least if any fading or bleaching happens you've done the whole carpet to match!"She who asks is a fool once. I had a sick stain from my grandson on a cream carpet,,,nothing would shift it then i heard about a yellow liquid, called (NOT A WIND UP) elbow grease..it is GREAT for this and a squirt on most stains ie oily dirty even glue,on hands a 30 second soak and they vanish,, try it its available from some £ shops or hardware,,about £1 to £1.50 not for wood but, almost anything else......:)0
