Alan had a much better night and was not in pain. When he got up at 8.30am he went to bathroom to have a shower but didn't manage it as felt rotten and started retching, just fluid and wind. I got him some peppermint cordial and something light to eat so he could have his morning meds and he lay back in bed
Our GP came about 10.40 and decided to switch Alan to slow-release morph!ne twice a day so he had continuous pain-relief. He is to stop the codeine phosphate but keep taking the 8 paracetamol. He also prescribed him some anti-sickness tablets. GP will put the script into the surgery dispensary and I can collect the meds this afternoon. He said Alan is still to use the oramorph if required and is going to call on Thursday to see how he is getting on
We got up when Doc left and had our proper breakfast, though Alan couldn't finish his big bowl of cereal and fruit, so going to make that smaller in future. He was happily watching the England v West Indies ODI cricket on tv with me - feeling good but tired, so going back to bed now for a sleep
And it's a lovely sunny day - washing on the line and 2nd load in the washer just about to finish - it's a good day today in 3Dogs land and I feel positive and motivated :j :j :j :j :j :j :jMr 3Dogs 3-7-12

I picked up the new meds from the surgery and wwill start them afresh in the morning. Alan has had a good day, with just a bit of pain starting when his tea-time meds were a bit late
but he is much happier in himself. No way that we will get up to visit family this week but he is more positive about getting down to see Kit, Steve and Andy the following week :j
Off to bed now so goodnight all - sleep well :beer:Mr 3Dogs 3-7-12

It is lovely that Alan has felt well enough to travel and visit family but I am wondering if there is an opportunity for the family to visit him? That way Alan can feel more comfortable in his own home and can rest in bed if he needs to.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Alan started the day ok. Alarm went off at 8 am and he got up about 8.30 to have shave and shower. However he couldn't manage a shave as he couldn't stand and lean over the basin long enough. He did have a shower, but came back into the bedroom feeling rotten and in pain. I did our breakfast cereal and he could only eat half. I gave him his morning meds including the new slow release morphine and he went back to bed. After a half hour he was still in pain so I gave him some orimorph and he tried to get some rest
He slept on and off but the pain remained, and he had his lunch-time meds and orimorph and slept a bit more. I went out to take a king size mattress to the tip - you should have seen me getting that out of the house, to the car, and into the back of the car  You would have laughed, and cried, at the struggle I had but I did it and now it is gone :j. I then called at Tosco as Linda had asked if I could get a couple of bits and when I got home, I found that the doctor had tried to ring me about 10 minutes before I got in. It was pointless trying to ring back as he would have just been trying between appointments. I did think he may ring later but he didn't, so will have to wait until he rings or comes tomorrow
I have just settled Alan in bed - he has had all his meds today and his last orimorph but is in agony with the sharp pain in his right side if he moves so much as an inch. There is nothing more I can give him or do for him, except try to make him comfy, and I am sitting here in tears typing this as I feel so useless and he is in such pain
I will have to ring the surgery first thing and ask the doc to ring as soon as possible. He did prescribe 10mg and 15 mg but told him to take the 10 mg to see if that is enough, but it looks like he needs the stronger dose ...... and I think I will give him that in the morningMr 3Dogs 3-7-12

Hi 3Dogs
I don`t usually post in the week but I just wanted you to know that you are not alone so dry your eyes Sweetheart and go brew a cuppa tea, horlicks or whatever your night time tipple is. You really are an angel and even angels cry sometimes...:A
You are doing brilliantly and as you know there will be good and bad days. I hope Alan can sleep and that the painkillers kick in soon.
Lots of hugs...Angiexx0 -
Hi 3Dogs
I wasn't going to pop in this evening but I'm glad I did now.
Just wanted to second everything that Angie has said and to say you're definitely not on your own.
Please don't feel that you're useless, you're very far from that, You're coping (and managing) a difficult situation for both you and Alan incredibly well and there will be some difficult days and times.
Re the Doctor, could you give him your mobile number, just a thought?
Lots of hugs to you and Alan, I hope he can get comfortable soon.
Take care

Hi all
Hope you are all well.
Susan it sounds like your'e having a really rough time at the moment, you must not deal with it alone, do you not have a 24hr oncology number? we have one that we can call to say the problem and they then get the night doc to call back and advise. See if there is one for your hospital. What about your Macmillan nurse? Sometimes you just need the ok to put your mind at rest and that its ok to give an extra spoon of orimorph. It doesn't matter if your doc is 'between appointments', keep phoning until the receptionist puts you through or guarantees a callback. YOU are important.
As to feeling useless thats how WE feel, our men are just glad we are there to comfort them, just your company will be reassuring for Alan.
Let the tears out, its better than bottling up, but not over the computer keyboard, water and technology is not a good combination! Kitchen floor is better as it gives it a wash at the same time!
Joking aside, look after yourselves and NEVER be afraid to ask for help from the professionals, its what they are there for, we can only guess at whats wrong but they are the ones who know and can help.
Take care all

second part of that quote!!???0 -
Hun, the above posts probably made you cry again. They did me and I am sitting on a bus!
Susan, you don't have to be strong all the time and no one expects you to be. So whenyou feel like havibg a good cry, please do, but not over the keyboard, it will make it wet
It is good for you to release the feelings inside rather than letting them build up.
We are always here with virtual hugs and cups of tea, as we know how much you love your tea.
We are here supporting you both. Xxxx0
