Sorry to hear that Nick's oncology appointment didn't go well. Nick's cancer may be progressing but they are still slowing it down from what it would have been so you have more time together

Thinking of you hun and Nick too :A

We had a lovely day out in Newcastle. We took the car and parked in the city centre. Alternative was to use the Metro but Alan didn't think he would have managed that. The multi-storey I chose brings you out right in the city centre .......... downside is that it cost us £9.90 to park  for 2 1/2 hours, though if we'd got back to car within 2 hours it would only have been £6+ Newcastle has always been very expensive for parking

Anyway, we walked down Northumberland Street and called into Hotel Chocolat ;) They would only let us use two of the vouchers from earlier online competition but I had chosen the 2 best I had, for the Signature collection, so able to choose to the value of these, 2 x £28 :D The Signature collection was half price so I got 3 of them, plus a box of Rum Truffles and 6 small packs of 6 chocs. We were well pleased with what we got :j :j

We then wandered around the indoor market, and had a coffee there, before going into Eldon Square itself. But not really interested in the 'shopping mall' type of shops so we came out at the Monument and wandered back up Northumberland Street. We called at Costa for an iced drink and cake before going back to the car to drive home

Alan enjoyed it and managed to get around with his crutches quite well. The heat was getting to him though so we tried to walk in the shade as it was very hot. although he went to bed after a coffee when we got back, he wasn't 'exhausted' just tired and in fact didn't go to sleep. He was already up when I got back from seeing Mam and seemed fine as he ate his dinner. He is back in bed now

He said he was so glad we'd got up to the town and had a look around, as it made him feel better. Tomorrow, we are going up to Newcastle Airport late morning to meet my Sister and B-i-L as they return from their USA holiday. She doesn't know we are going to meet them so it will be a nice surprise for them .... I hope  :D

Hi folks, 3Dogs directed me here after I "found" her on another thread.

I'm taking it easy at home after an operation, so have plenty of time to spend [STRIKE]waste[/STRIKE] on MSE.

My father is suffering with bowel cancer that has spread to the liver. Being slowed down with chemo and bio therapy, after 9 months of chemo that has left him exhausted the tumours are unchanged (this is meant to be a good sign). So they've now tried a new form of radiotherapy called SIRT. Problem is that the SIRT treatment has left him feeling very ill, so not sure if we are further forward until we know if it works.

Would love to chat with anyone about anything, particularly interested to hear of other experiences with pallative care.

    Hi there silvercar
    Ive seen you around.
Good to see you on 3dogs thread.
My opinion is that sometimes it just might be better to have a wee break fromit all & take a step back.
My very personal opinion is that sometimes the treatments are as bad as the disease & people really need to think about that.
To me its all about peoples quality of life.

    Hello all!

Thank you 3Dogs, JJ, Beanie, Boult, and SSA for your kind thoughts, your support on here means a lot to me :)

Sounds like your trip has been just what the doctor ordered 3dogs, I prescribe a long rest when you get back home though!

Welcome Silvercar, this is a lovely thread full of lovely people with lovely words to cheer you :T (Ha I think Iv'e found the smilies again!!)

My experience of palliative care here in York has been a very positive one, from the diagnosis we had a benefit advisor from the Cancer Care centre to help with the DLA, we have 24hr contact numbers from the Oncology department and also the help of a MacMillan nurse. During a bout of chemo Nick ran out of Colostomy bags  phoned Onc nurses who contacted colorectal and arranged for me to pick up a box! Was so relieved had visions of a Blue Peter job with Tossco carrier bags and sticky back plastic!!

Had a lovely day yesterday, both children off work so we had a chilling in the garden day/evening. Result- bit of a fuzzy head (must be getting on a bit, the kids can now drink me under the table!!) and 5 mossy bites!
Am now on the lookout for the next M&S wine deal!! :D

Take care all and enjoy the sunshine!

Now why didn't I take any notice of the
    second part of that quote!!???
