    Why do you assume that everything will be perfect on a internet forum, a forum will mirror the real world, unfortunately you get jokers, pi55 takers, helpful people etc where ever you go. If anything internet the way it is and you dont see people face to face you more likely if anything to get less helpful advice

    The irony is truly delicious.
    Daisy, You should really have a quick look at what you've written, then apply you own standards to yourself.

    There is a user who commented on this thread who I have noticed goes around the forum using the "Thanks" button on rude and unhelpful replies.
    That could be me, I won't shy away from it. But usually the people who receive a vitriolic reply from me have deserved it due to either asking advice on something illegal or something plain stupid.

    The motto is, Think before you post as its a public forum and if you're expecting people to take up their own time reading your problems, it should be worthy of that time spent, not just asking how to get out of paying a loan back or similar unrealistic expectation.

    Unfortunately there are some pretty inadequate people who post on this forum, they try to deal with their low self-esteem by mocking others. They are probably to be pitited more than anything.

    So, so true.

    not everyone deserves a helpfull answer. we've all been to shops etc and seen customers give staff a hard time for no good reason. if someone comes on hear complaining about something not important they deserve to be criticised.

    There tends to be a correlation between posting drivel and not liking the inevitable unsympathetic responses and a later thread along the lines of 'why is everyone so mean on MSE?'.

    If you want help and advice from strangers it pays to stick to a few basic principles..

    * don't appear greedy
    * do have a genuine problem
    * don't throw your teddies out of the pram if someone is unhelpful - the more you draw attention to the posts that have upset your fragile ego, the more others will join in.

    I can add another, fluffnutter:
    • give as much information as you feel is necessary in your first post
    I find it quite irritating to have to keep asking further questions when you're trying to help people who are drip-feeding information.
