My girlfriend and I switched our own (individual) accounts to get the £200.
However, we switched from Smile. As this is part of cooperative bank I doubt it counts as a "full switch from a different provider". My girlfriend has been sent a text saying she won't get the £200. But I've not been informed I don't qualify. I wonder if it's worth continuing to pay in the £800? My direct debits and standing orders have all moved over now so I guess I may as well stick with it!
I'd be interested to know if anyone else can shed any light?

i would ring them up if u want to know about the £200...at least then u know whether you should bother with the £800 transfers...

if u don't qualify for the bonus, do u get the free £200 overdraft, i wonder? i imagine u do...plus the 90 day interest free increased overdraft limit (normally a £1000 i was told) for helping to set up the account without hitches, if u remember to ask or confirm u want it...so maybe that would make it worthwhile?

update: I have 3 of my direct debits which have now failed (including my mortgage). I called the Co-op, which says that these 3 have "claimed too early" when the direct debits were not completely set up.
I'm not sure who I have to "blame" for this, but it is a bit annoying.
Piece of advice: keep an eye on your direct debits in the first few days!

COOP Bank have a "service guarantee" and claim to pay out £15 for certain mistakes
    http://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/servlet/Satellite/1193206375657,CFSweb/Page/CFSCtplStandard?WT.svl=nav3

"We were the first high street bank to give all our customers a guarantee of efficient, error-free service. If we make a mistake in any of the areas covered by our guarantees, we promise to say sorry, put the problem right and pay you £15 for your trouble. (We have a success rate of 99.9%, so putting our money where our mouth is seems to work!!)

See the list below with the terms and conditions:-

Account opening - We promise to deal with your current account application within 48 hours of receiving it and to open your account without error.

Statements - We promise not to make any financial errors on your statements.

Cheque books and cards - We promise we will automatically issue your cheque book and cards to make sure you always have them available.

Standing orders and direct debits - We promise to set up and to pay your standing orders as instructed and without any mistakes."

Although they failed to renew my previous debit card (apparantly they operate a "probationary period" for debit cards and require manual issue of a card after the probationary period - so I was without a card for a few days

This appears to qualify for the £15 , but it was not mentioned by COOP Bank staff at the time

COOP Bank are useful for direct debits though - it is possible to cancel and recall most direct debits on the same day that they leave the account using online banking and the money is returned to the current account within a few minutes

Nationwide are offering £100 if they don't contact your Direct Debit companies within 10 working days (I wonder if that would cover delays by the Bank transferring from - there are some posts in this thread about delays by the Bank transferring from)

"Contact all your Direct Debit companies within 10 working days. If we don’t, we’ll give you £100. Simply have payments to transfer and make sure we have the right information."

I'm curious - could you elaborate on that, please? Are you saying that for some people there's a short period to expiry date to make sure you do/don't... something?

The previous card had a three year period of validity and had replaced an earlier card automatically ,however the previous card wasn't automatically renewed upon expiry

The COOP Bank employee said that there is a "probationary period" for debit card renewals , the card had been renewed previously and I have the top behaviour score "1" so it was a bit of a shock

They do also issue debit cards with a short period of validity eg 1 year

They may well be taking the mickey , I do make use of the facility to cancel direct debits on they day they leave the account so perhaps they object to that

The "probationary period" appears to be long one with cards being re-issued durring the period but not after it - it doesn't make a great deal of sense and I am merely quoting the employee

there is a thread here (although my account was operated within the T&S's)

To those who expressed their dismay at how the online banking is dealt with please have a read of this.

I sent the following email yesterday expressing concern in relation to the security & look of the online banking and also whether there was going to be any sort of mobile app (iPhone/iPad in particular) planned for the future, see below:

Coul you please specify which is the email address you sent this to?
I would like to send them a few lines requesting a confirmation that my switch is ok, as I have received my welcome package only today, I think it is a second try they had at sending it... so I am outside the original 14 days for full switch.... and of course I will continue with them only if the 200£ reward is confirmed!

  • I applied on the first day of the offer over the phone. I gave them my switching details. I received an acceptance letter for both signatures which i sent back. Since then, nothing.

I called and apparently the account has been opened, they will apply for the switch and I should receive something in the post "soon". Very surprised this is taking so long.

Hmm, I'm not impressed. I received a letter today saying my switch is complete. I logged onto my old and new account and only one SO had been switched, the other SO was still there. I phoned up Coop switching team and they asked for the details of the missing SO so they could set it up for me. I said I didn't know them so he went off and came back and said he had found the details of the missing SO and he will now switch it. Luckily it's just two dummy SOs so it doesn't bother me, but it's a bit worrying for people doing a proper switch!

On my new account the SO also shows as "monthly" but no due date. Weird.

Edit: From the post above, do I qualify for the £15?
