  • Deal expired? offer has been removed from the Co-op home page...
  • Seems like the £200 Incentive has now been withdrawn. But they will still apply it to all those who have applied up to todays date.

    From the website......
Customers who have applied online for a new current account, Current Account Plus, Privilege or Privilege Premier current account between the 17th October and 21st October are still eligible for the Get £200 incentive by completing a full switch (a full switch means all Direct Debits and/or standing orders which must include a minimum of 2 Direct Debits and/or standing orders) from another provider using our dedicated switching service within 14 days of account opening.

It seems the Co-op had set themselves some financial target, translated that fingers-crossedly into a number of sign-ups, and put aside a large fixed sum to allow them to reach the latter.

I wonder what proportion of sign-ups are to game the system by cycling £800 or tarty enough not to leave enough money with the Co-op to be profitable? At least the NHS offer made sense in that it required you to sign up for a non-free account. [edit - no it didn't - see next post]

The NHS account was free, it just required you to deposit £800/month as long as the account was open (rather than the £800 for 3 months). Nothing stopping you from closing the account once you had your £200 though.

Has anyone received anything other than "Your approved, subject to..." yet ?

You're quite correct - sorry. I was thinking Plus = Privilege.

We must hope that the banks don't operate the scheme as described on the BACS website, since it clearly wouldn't work.

Of course they use it. That is the way DDs are switched.
The original bank cancels the DDs on instruction from the new bank.
The same automated process is used by all banks in the UK for account switching.
It certainly does work and has happened like that everytime I have switched.

    Not quite the same deal.
It appears to have been modified to apply to existing members of the Co-operative society only for online applications.
You can still apply in branch and get the £200 according to that page.

Does the COOP membership form generate an instant dividend card number ?

I think that it does (for lost cards it is possible to cancel the card and obtain a new card number online and the card number is required to log in)

I can't remember whether the membership requirement was mentioned on the link you posted when I reposted it at 4.29pm today , I see that it mentions the 5pm cut off time in the past tense though
